Which Uni is best for NURSING?

Scroll to see replies

The best university may be different for different people bases it upon the league tables is not a good way to go. They may offer High entry requirements but it does not mean they are the best.
It does not matter what unjversity you go to as long as you have the support ancona be able to get a job afterwards

Hi I have been to a few university open days and I want to study children's nursing too. I wasn't very keen on Nottingham and York was good but they only have 11 places for child nursing! :/ so it is really competitive. Surrey and Southampton were really good, and I'm going to see Cardiff and Hertfordshire soon. Biology isn't compulsory to universities but I think it is preferred, but do you have another science or a social science? They accept them too. Have you seen any?

Hiya, it's shocking how few places there are for the childrens branch. I went to Worcester recently and they had 12 places! I wish I could see more unis though. I hear Nottingham is good for nursing- do you know how many places they have? And how did you find York uni?
I have an AS in biology but for A2 most of my subjects are social sciences. Do you study A levels?

I know! I personally didn't like Nottingham because as a student nurse you need to have self-catered but they only offer catered on campus, and the self-catered accommodation isn't run by the uni and is quite far from campus and the hospital, the simulation unit isn't great either, and when I went to the open day it was really unorganised, I think they has 66 places. York was nice but it wa the first one I went to so I didn't really know what I was looking for at the time :/
Oh right that should be alright, and yeah I do a-levels and have 2 social sciences, but some uni's like Manchester said they took psychology (which is one of my a-levels) as a science..

Do you know if you can apply for more uni's if you don't get accepted in to any of your 5 choices? Because someone on here sounds like they have done that.. But I didn't know you were allowed to do that.

Hey people!

I'm considering becoming a children's nurse. Because I can't physically visit every single university that does child nursing, so I've decided to ask you guys

*Which uni is best for child nursing?
*Are the placements easy to commute to?
*I'm generally terrified in leaving my city to study at another city and do placements there, how do you guys cope?
*Are the lectures approachable and give you regular feedback?

University of Cumbria is pretty good-- it specialises in Education, but their nursing courses are meant to be fantastic. For placements they have a policy where they won't put you further than an 1 hour drive away, and they try and pair you up with another person that drives to help minimize costs. The lecturers for my course are extremely supportive. The campus is actually very small, so everyone kind of knows everyone, you aren't just another number. They push you to come visit them in their offices, and if you have any worries about placement, just go and see them and they can tell you how wonderful a person you are.

Btw, I'm doing Primary Education in the Lancaster campus. My first week was great.
Im just doing my p statement to and have no idea where to go!! I know i want to specialise in oncology but unsure for children or adults and i really need to stay in london where i live as i have 2 children to consider so my options are city uni, kings, southbank or greenwich, im pretty sure that london city uni is linked with marsden and gos so that looks like a good option for me, bit of a pain that most have open days after my ps has to be submitted to ucas :frown: x

I am starting children's nursing in October at Birmingham City University. When I was applying I looked for the ones with the best placement areas; Birmingham Childrens Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital (One of the biggest hospitals in the UK). Also Liverpool offers placements in; Alder hey childrens hospital, which is one of the best in the UK. Liverpool John Moores is 48 rank and Birmingham City is 46. Leeds is 8 in ranking and that has a the womens and childrens hospital as a Placement area. At the end of the day you'll be spending a lot of time in placements and their just as important. Dont know if that helps at all, but all the universities are hard to get into whatever their ranking is and I agree with Anthony! Make sure you visit the university open day and feel comfortable there! Good luck!

Hello! Just wanted to ask what kind of subjects& grades you got at a-level and work experience as I've put Bcu as one of my choices on ucas
Started at Surrey, the lecturers are all really nice and the course module programmes up to Christmas sound really exciting! Can't wait for it to start picking up a bit! (Will probably regret that statement lol)
I started at Bournemouth yesterday is that a good UNi am I going to pass. Every one there seemed funny and friendly

i study with the university of nottingham and i love it, i think it's brillaint
Im in my first year with nottingham university and love it, i currently do placement at Lincoln county hospital and havnt had a bad experience ( touch wood) yet, people really take you under their wing, but also throw you in the deep end. Yes, you see a lot of sad things, but with the sad you see the good and its very rewarding.

good luck!!

I think everyone has different opinions on which is the best Uni for Nursing. I applied to Nottingham and got in but decided against it as i wasn't that keen on the open day, eventhough my uncle work for the University. I study at Northampton and i actually like it alot.

Don't get me wrong Nottingham is a good Nursing School but everyone has different opinions.
