Re: Which are the best halls at MMU? The accommodation questions megathreadI take it you've studied at MMU before then.. What's it like arriving to the halls and not really knowing anyone? Isn't everyone in an awkward position, or do people just introduce themselves to each other?(Original post by bella127)
Yeah, you'll find out your room and flat as you arrive.
We have fed back to the University that people want to know beforehand - bit late to implement for you guys, but hopefully they'll think of it for later.. -
Re: Which are the best halls at MMU? The accommodation questions megathreadYep, I did my BSc here from 2008-2011 and worked at the Union bar, have worked here in the Programmes Office since January, and start my MSc here in September!(Original post by Beatlemania)

You just kinda have to suck it up! It's super awkward but everyone's in the exact same boat so yep, introduce yourself. My method was just to thrust wine at people and get myself suitably merry - heh, it worked! -

For any students who are going to be living in Mill Point this year, join here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/millpoint2012/
The group is run by current residents of Mill Point, and can be used for getting to know new flatmates, making new friends, organising parties, or basically just having a laugh and creating a bit of chaos. -
Re: Which are the best halls at MMU? The accommodation questions megathread
Guys i've been reading your posts against millpoint and i have to disagree - fair enough most of you haven't been and have just heard stuff but Mill point is in my opinion the best place to be for a student - yeah fair enough its a little expensive (but lets be honest - what uni halls isn't?) .. its worth absolutely every penny!
I've been there for two years and i've booked my third year there too. The staff are amazing, proper helpful with like issues (even down to changing a lightbulb they're super fast!) The safety thing people mentioned about prostitutes etc and people being attacked isn't quite true - yes there are prostitutes, but its further up where they stand - they don't bother us and to be honest - Millpoints probably the most secure i've ever seen, gates, security on 24/7.
And also the social life - everyone wants to know everyone, both years i've been there people have just had massive gatherings meeting in the courtyard near the start of the year - its aawesome! -
Re: Which are the best halls at MMU Manchester? The accommodation questions megathrea
If you want to have the best time at MMU and have the most chance of making a lot of friends choose cambridge halls. It is the most sociable and the best by far. All of you that are saying that you need an ensuite, I thought that before I came there but actually its not that bad having to share. My only warnings would be: If you are a quiet person who doesn't like to drink, you won't fit in. If you are OCD about cleanliness, you won't fit in. The kitchens are a mess and you will be surprised how shockingly lazy some people can be when it comes to cleaning up after themselves.
1. Cambridge Halls 100%
2. Cavendish
Anywhere else may be nice looking but they are boring as hell -
Re: Which are the best halls at MMU Manchester? The accommodation questions megathreaI don't understand how this can be said, surely there's different people each year so wouldn't it depend on that? I'm not arguing with you as so many people have said it, so it must be true, I just don't really understand how it's worked out like that haha(Original post by nikkiosborne)

Also MMunion has put welcome week as the 15th so I guess that's when everyone moves in
