TSR, Whats your dream camera? I'll Start...
    Leica M-Monochrom with a Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux (ASPH)

    Why?

I shoot almost exclusively in Black & White at the moment. Id love a camera that small. I still need the great ISO performance of my MkII. Holds the best series of lenses ever made, Leica M's

    Your go!

I'd love a Leica M9-P, but I'd rather be able to afford to eat for the next two years.

The bodies I have are good enough if I ma honest with my self but a Nikkor 400 2.8 plus 2 x converter (I need to cut my cloth however hence I am getting the 300 before I start uni) backed up by a Sigma 500-800 5.6. not visible on any horizon sadly, would put me in heaven.

    Add those to a Nikon 1 with a F mount adapter and I would be a happy bunny. 800 x 2.7 slurpppp.

I have zero (make that negative) interest in FF and I have zero interest in bodies with a built in grip, like D3 or D4.

The leaked spec of the rumoured D400 sounds like it might be the last DSLR I buy as an upgrade, 9fps, crop sensor, D300S sized buffer when in lossless compressed raw, autofocus at F8 and usable to 6400.

I would only then purchase to replace "deaths" due to natural causes such as old age or cameracide or cameraknapping.

Just because you have or dream of having an expensive camera does not make you a professional photographer. You're nothing special, just some douche with an expensive camera.

No sh1t Sherlock on that one.....

Not that professional status indicates anything particular about ability anyway. Unfortunately associating professional status with artistic ability or it even being a general aspiration of photographers is a bit "year 8"......

However owning or dreaming of owning an expensive camera does not preclude the individual being very good, excellent or even brilliant.

But there is a danger in threads like this that responses tend to be the most expensive camera folks can think of, or a "member of the club" statement or the top of the range for a particular brand.

i.e. Phase One, Hasselbad, Canon 1DX, Canon 5D III, Nikon D4, Nikon D800 or anything FF etc etc.

Rather than what would actually enable them to shoot what they want to shoot, how they want to shoot it.

You sound like me about phones - keep on going with a crappy one just to prove a point that they're not necessary. Except I don't post on 'what's your dream phone' threads telling everyone how idiotic they are... :erm:

I don't think anyone's claimed that having a nice camera makes them a professional or special, just that they'd like to have one ... in much the same way as plenty of people want a nice car, but they don't claim it makes them an F1 driver.

No, but Captain Hindsight's argument (here and on other threads) is that you'll take the same photo whatever gear you use ... just as I could make the same phone call using the latest iPhone or my old Nokia 3410.

No ****; you also need a computer to process, edit, print and showcase photographs. There is money in phones; a computer is a necessary hardware.

I would quite like to have a go with an old-style camera: big camera, large wooden tripod, have to load plates in, go under the sheet, put the cap on and off...

Ah yes, I always put my negatives straight into the computer... :borat:

Not all photography requires a computer, the computer is a pretty recent add-on. Im going to say that out off all the people that have an iPhone there are 100x the amount of people that make money from their top-end camera
