POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?Personally I loved him. I think he was great and did a lot of work to keep us from an even worse depression.
If I had the opportunity I would vote him in again.
So what do you think?Last edited by Jeester; 27-06-2012 at 23:08. -
Re: POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?
Gordon Brown was made into a social reject by Murdoch. The Tories jumped on the bangwagon to steal an election win.
We had a primeminister who got praised by numerous world leaders (even the argentinian woman!) about how he dealth with and lead the solution to the debt crisis. He saved alot of the world from another great depression.
The reason we still have an economy is down to Gordon Brown.
Anybody who says he wasn't a good chancellor, or primeminister is simply brainwashed by the Murdoch empire. -

This! And let's not forget his famous "end of boom and bust" speech or the distinct lack of charisma or the raw deal given to anyone earning between £5k - £18k when he abolished the 10% tax rate(Original post by Aphotic Cosmos)
Sold 395 tonnes of gold at the lowest price in living memory, and yet is somehow considered a great economist? Nope, sorry, don't like the man and wouldn't vote for him.

Re: POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?
Just to be clear on the poll, the reference to voting him in 'again' doesn't make much sense given that he didn't win any general elections.
I like him. I like the fact that he's not the shiny, insubstantial media guy that Blair and Cameron are, and I think he comes across as substantially more genuine than either. I'm not convinced he was a particularly good Prime Minister (although I think some very unfortunate things happened during his premiership which were blamed on him more than they should have been) and he certainly isn't an inspirational leader, but unlike most politicians of all 3 major parties I did actually believe he wanted to do some good. I just don't think the premiership was the right way for him to accomplish it. -
Re: POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?
He was an incompetent, dour, Scottish twonk. Far from "saving the world" as he claimed in a fit of delusion he's actually architect in chief of the UK's demise. I wouldn't entrust him to run a local Post Office let alone one of the world's foremost democracies.

Re: POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?
He was no Tony Blair... that said other than his handling of the gold sell off, he did and had the potential to do a lot of good albeit at what financial cost?
Well you take the bad with the good in him... unlike Miliband, Gordon is most certainly better than that farcical arse. -
Re: POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?My personal favourite part is that in his last budget as chancellor, Brown said "we will never return to the old boom and bust".(Original post by meenu89)
'No more boom or bust.' Sums him up really. Waited ages for the job and was one of the worst PMs ever.
Just over a year later, we hit one of the biggest recessions in living memory. -
Re: POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?He was fighting a battle that he had helped to lose. At the last election, the biggest issue was the economy. Gordon Brown had been Chancellor for 10 out of the 13 years Labour were in power and as such was pretty much wholly responsible for the state of the country's finances going in to the crisis.(Original post by Dorito)
He's better than the clowns we have running the country now.
I always liked him and feel slightly sorry for him, he was fighting a losing battle. -
Re: POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?
Brown was an awful pm, Im sure most on here would agree.
But as a Chancellor he had his ups and downs, his greatest achievement was telling Blair that the UK should not join the Euro which had therefore led to Blair and Brown having a poor relationship. Brown had also kept the tax rate for the rich as 40% as Brown recognised that a 40% tax rate was a suitable tax for the highest earners.
However, Brown had spent too much money whilst he was Chancellor as well as PM. But also, Brown sold our gold for £10 billion less for what we could of got now, which was a poor forecast by Brown. -
Re: POLL: What do you think of Gordon Brown now?
A bastard.
His record as a chancellor is among the worst and people tend to give him too much credit with regard to keeping UK out of the Euro...end of the day even if it was government policy to adopt the Euro, it would had been darn near impossible without a referendum which would have been defeated anyway if ever it came to it.
Selling off the gold is a big blunder, granted thanks to him I've profited quite well on this matter
I'll thank him for this for making my bank account bigger, but I'll call him a useless bastard for messing up everything else.
No more boom and bust, he must have been sleeping or surrounded by useless 3rd grade economist or wannabe economist. He must have been really blind to the fact that much of the UK's boom at that time was due to the property bubble and the banks which were making a big run on their emerging market adventures.
His tax and spend policy was absolute rubbish, before 97 UK had the lowest petrol and diesel prices across Europe, by 1998 it was among the highest with the only place diesel being more expensive being Switzerland which had high levels of tax on diesel to fund the Alpine Tunnel Rail Project. While I agree with tax on fuel, he should have also checked on the rotten state of UK's infrastructure at the time and the huge dependency on the road network to get commerce moving.
As a PM, he was a weak and useless one... acting too slow and too late on just about everything. The economic crisis could have been less severe had he acted sooner and with better certainty. The bank bailouts, it was a rather farce the way it was done and essentially it was a bailout with a blank cheque and no conditions..
I wish that bastard had been kicked out of office the same way he had wormed his way in.
