Where to do Elective in London for Anaesthetics???
The place for medical students to discuss all things about the course from work load to applying for jobs and everything else. Not the place for applicants to ask current medical students questions!

Where to do Elective in London for Anaesthetics???
Hi there I am a kiwi girl looking to do my 8 week elective from June 2013 in Anaesthetics.
I ideally want to be in London as have accommodation in Chelsea with a friend.
Absolutely no idea where I should apply, any help would be awesome!
I ideally would like to be at a hospital with a big educational focus and where the consultants are really keen on teaching and you are able to get involved with procedures etc.
Advice would be much appreciated
Thanks!

Re: Where to do Elective in London for Anaesthetics???Well, your best bet would be to try Imperial or UCL if you have accommodation in Chelsea. I wouldn't want to be trying to commute from West London to East London to Barts during the Olympics.(Original post by awes042)

You forgot UCL. But I'm not sure if they take elective students currently - they didn't 4 years ago.

Re: Where to do Elective in London for Anaesthetics???
If you want high-tech academic anaesthetics, I'd recommend UCL.
If you want entry-level anaesthetic fun and games, your standard district general hospital should be able to provide plenty. Any of the big five teaching hossies should be able to provide or arrange a good mix of emergency, critical care, general, ortho, CT, neuro, paeds and runts & ***** in any variation you like. -

Re: Where to do Elective in London for Anaesthetics???Is that just for internationals or is that in general? So as a UK student studying at a UK uni, if I want to do my elective in the UK I have to apply to a medical school rather than contacting a specific hospital?(Original post by theatrical)

Elective in a UNIVERSITY hospital or DGH hospital in London???
Hi there I was wondering as an overseas student which placement would be better- a central university hospital or a peripheral DGH type??
My countries health system is a lot different to the UK we only have a handful of hospitals!
I was posed this question by a friend and have tried to read up but its a bit confusing
Thanks

It depends what you're after at the end the end of the day. While the article I'm going to forward you is not related to electives, it's message still translates.
