Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadIt probably crossed Pearce's mind(Original post by DaveSmith99)
Craig Bellamy, the football player who is better as assault then is football, we might as well have taken Barton.
Then again, Giggs is hardly the greatest role model.

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadYour deluded if you think Beckham being in the GB squad is going to fill out stadiums.(Original post by internet tough guy)
Yeah medals are great, but I think filling stadiums and making sure there are as much attention from around the world is equally important.
There are somthing like 1.2m football tickets left. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadI'm not saying he's right to take Bellamy and Giggs either. I'm just saying the idea that Beckham isn't going 'to make a point' is ridiculous.(Original post by Tommyjw)
Giggs is older and not in great form.
Bellamy isnt exactly a spring chicken and isnt on great form.
Beckham has actually played quite a lot more and played better for LA than the other two have their clubs this year.
People seem to go to extremes with Beckham purely because they think he is hyped up because of ho he is. In reality, he has picked two more unfit and less in form players over Beckham,, not exactly a clear cut logical choice.
Even ignoring his age, he's not played well recently, he's been part of an LA Galaxy side that despite being the most expensive team in the MLS (and reigning champions) have lost half of their games and are mid-table in their conference. There's an argument for him going for his past achievements but he doesn't deserve to go on merit or on his form this year - and before you mention Giggs or Bellamy - neither do they. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadHe still gets plenty of assists and such, his main job. I regularly just look at his ratings etc and whilst, clearly, they arent mind blowing, he is still pretty decent(Original post by Laertes)

I mean, he has played more than giggs and Bellamy, and Bellamy certainly has had more fitness issues, so it isnt exactly like his age would put him last.
Beckham just has had a better year overall. Of course the only issue is whether people subjectively view the MLS good enough to compare his season to PL players
To be fair.. Bellamy... Liverpool.. Big spending..he's been part of an LA Galaxy side that despite being the most expensive team in the MLS (and reigning champions) have lost half of their games and are mid-table in their conference.

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadEarly next week I heard it was being officially handed over to the Olympic committee. There's so much hype over the three overage players, but I really just wanna know whether young players like Nathan Redmond, Jordan Mutch, Kieran Gibbs, and Matty Phillips are going to get a chance to shine.(Original post by TheWalkinDude)
When does the full squad get announced? Sick of all this build-up! Just tell us the squad! -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadRedmond looks like he could be a very good player. It's a shame Matt Phillips chose to play for Scotland instead of England though.(Original post by myfriendSQRT(-1))

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadWas very impressed by him. Scored a couple of screamers as well for Birmingham. It is, but in fairness he'll get a lot more senior action for Scotland than he would for England.(Original post by TheWalkinDude)

All the GB tickets are sold out aren't they? I got tickets to the Brazil matches the other day though(Original post by L18)

Terrible decision to take Giggs over Carrick but brilliant decision to take Richards over Beckham.

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadNot too sure on that, England looked worse than Scotland all the way through the Euros...(Original post by myfriendSQRT(-1))

Love it if Craig Gardner, Caulker and Albrighton got in the squad though. -
Had ferguson put his foot down over decent players? As Giggs was pretty poor as last season went on and doesn't deserve to go to the tournament based on either ability or form. The only reason he is going is the same reason he won player of the year.(Original post by DaveSmith99)

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadHe said a while back that the only overage player available for selection was Giggs. I don't think Carrick would even want to go with it being so close to the start of the season anyway.(Original post by Mess.)

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squad
Personally I'd have asked Paul Scholes; he's probably the best player to come out of England since Gascgoine. We should have asked him for Euro 2012, too.
As for Beckham, his crosses are unbelievable, as are his free-kicks. But Rory Delap's throw-in is equally incredible: should we bring him too? of course not.
What made Beckham great was his amazing cross coupled with a whole lot of averageness. Unfortunately, this averageness has depleted due to age, and so now, as everyone knows, a one trick pony who's trick has ceased to amaze. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadYou don't get to play for United, Madrid and Milan by being average. He was never average.(Original post by M'Ling)
