Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadNo, but I think there will be more people in the stadiums and from home watching if Beckham plays instead of say Bellemy for example. Surely you'd agree to this.(Original post by L18)
Your deluded if you think Beckham being in the GB squad is going to fill out stadiums.
There are somthing like 1.2m football tickets left. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadBeckham was probably the best right winger in the world in his prime(Original post by M'Ling)
Personally I'd have asked Paul Scholes; he's probably the best player to come out of England since Gascgoine. We should have asked him for Euro 2012, too.
As for Beckham, his crosses are unbelievable, as are his free-kicks. But Rory Delap's throw-in is equally incredible: should we bring him too? of course not.
What made Beckham great was his amazing cross coupled with a whole lot of averageness. Unfortunately, this averageness has depleted due to age, and so now, as everyone knows, a one trick pony who's trick has ceased to amaze. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadNo doubt. But what I mean to say is his crossing ability and free-kick supremeness meant that his averageness at heading, tackling, and defending was counterbalanced. I think, in his prime, he was world-class. In fact, I was hoping he'd go to 2010 World Cup because if you have someone with his capabilities at delivery on the pitch, you always have a chance. We probably missed him the other day against Italy.(Original post by DaveSmith99)
You don't get to play for United, Madrid and Milan by being average. He was never average. -
I can't really think who else there was at the time(Original post by Tommyjw)

Nedved? Figo?

How many people who are raging about this have seen him play for Galaxy recently? I'm not saying he's been playing poorly or anything but how many people know he hasn't been?
I can't understand why he left at the age he did to got to America. He still had a lot to offer to one of Europe's top clubs. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadLjungberg for Arsenal at around the same time, can't really think of anyone else though(Original post by Mess.)

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squad
Disgrace.
He helped get the Olympics, he's still playing football and good enough to compete against most squads because players are only under 23 really and he's an ex England captain and their second most capped player.
Why take Micah Richards? Surely there's an England U21 right back that can go there.. Just seems like he's taken pity on him because the media made a big deal about him not going to the EurosLast edited by Jim-Jam; 28-06-2012 at 18:36. -
On a purely footballing/current ability reason, why?(Original post by Ryan2159)
In my opinion it think it's a disgrace.

Craig Bellamy, the football player who is better at assault than he is football, we might as well have taken Barton. -

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadNot only do i think he should be respected more but he is still a good footballer. At 18 assists since 2011 is the highest in the MLS so clearly on footballing terms he has still done good. Throughout the world he is a role model, not only for footballing reasons but because of his attitude etc, personally i think he is a great role model for all young people around the world. Including me.(Original post by Mess.)

I thought he would be respected more as after all he was and still is a huge factor as to why we won the olympic bid, even though he has been snubbed i am sure he will be as enthusiastic as he has ever been. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadTbh i haven't watched Beckham play in a while. The bit I was laughing at was you saying Bellamy has more talent than Beckham ever had. If you actually believe that that then there are no words to describe your levels of delusion.(Original post by MoMatrix)
Who is the better footballer? -

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadDavid Beckham is also I think a nicer human being than Sebastien Coe. I wouldn't have included him though, or for that matter Ryan Giggs.(Original post by internet tough guy)
Thats completely different. Beckham is still playing football, he's not retired. I would say he's definitely got it in him to play olympic football.Last edited by barnetlad; 28-06-2012 at 18:58. -
