Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squad(Original post by Tommyjw)
Beckham was probably the best right winger in the world in his prime

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squad2011: 26 games, 15 assists(Original post by 419)
Wow.
Team GB just gain massive credibility with this news.
LOL at all you Beckham nuthugger. His name shouldn't even have been discussed in the first place. This isn't a celebrity showcase
2012 so far: 14 games, 5 assists
MLS best 11 2011
Etc.
Do tell, how exactly he shouldnt 'even be discussed'.
Please inform me of someone better, cheers. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadI tried thinking about better ones myself before and couldn't really. The only players of around his ability I came up with were Figo and Nedved (Nedved being more of a left sided player from memory though) and someone else pointed out Ljundberg. Apart from those 3 I really can't think of anyone but it might just be me drawing a blank.

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadOnly 18 players can be picked, Rio can't really play that many games over a really short period of time (same with Bellamy so I don't know why he is going) and GB has more decent CBs than RBs at u23 level.(Original post by MagicNMedicine)
More to the point....if the reason for omitting Beckham was to have more 'defensive cover' then why was Rio not picked??
How can Stuart Pearce possibly justify picking Micah Richards above Rio....'football reasons' my ass. -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadYeh, you need versatile players in an 18 man squad(Original post by Mess.)

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadThe GB football matches are sold out.(Original post by internet tough guy)
No, but I think there will be more people in the stadiums and from home watching if Beckham plays instead of say Bellemy for example. Surely you'd agree to this.
How is Beckham going to help shift tickets to Mexico v whoever? -

Ferguson refused to release anyone except Giggs. -

The GB football matches are sold out.

You're talking about the group matches only, right? -

Figo -
Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadYh I struggle to think of more. We must be forgetting some names. But despite that, Figo is superior to anyone and that to me in undebatable so I find it amusing that people will suggest that Becks was the best ring winger during Figo's era.(Original post by Mess.)

I can't understand why he left at the age he did to got to America. He still had a lot to offer to one of Europe's top clubs.

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squadAnd where did I scrap answers from other people.(Original post by Tommyjw)
Lol bless. Being clueless about football yourself and thus having to find any scrap of answers you can from others.
Beckham has performed better this season than Giggs and Bellamy.
LOL. Always having to result to childish insult when you know someone is right

Re: Beckham not included in GB olympic squad10 years ago, he was one of the best players in the world.
He's not that anymore. He can hardly change a game in the MLS anymore.
Giggs and Bellamy are playing in a vastly more demanding league than Beckham, and have done well, so deserve their places.
Beckham is long past it. He was one of the best wingers in the world, he's nowhere near that now. We won't win gold based on who's got the biggest celebrity in the team.
