Rejection Occupational Therapy Brighton
Hi,
My first time on here. Found out today I was unsuccessful for Brighton for the bsc Occupational September 2012. I'm absolutely heartbroken. I have three children and this university is local so was my only choice.
I put so much work into it, did lot's of shadowing O.T's etc. I won't give up though, if anything it's made me more determined. xx

Re: Rejection Occupational Therapy Brighton
Have you asked for feedback as to why you were rejected? If it was after interview, the uni should have made some brief notes as to why you weren't successful which you can request to see. If it was rejection without interview then again, you should be able to mail in and ask why you weren't offered a place. If you have done lots of shadowing, then it must have been the quality of your interview responses, or if you didn't have one, the quality of your personal statement.

Re: Rejection Occupational Therapy Brighton
The course leader is going to email me apparently. I did get short listed and was told I was second on the list, so kind of got my hopes up. There were quite a lot of OT assistants there, do they have the edge over people applying from other backgrounds?
I was very nervous at the interview, but I felt it went ok. They said in the rejection letter they had had an exeption standard of applicants this year.
Im going to percevere though!
Congrats on your offer Ideeva, is that at Brighton? Well done x -
I'm definitely going to apply again. Application quite intense, have to write two reports on two different types of OT and then the personal statement. Didn't hear for about a month then got the interview. That was good, a group interview with about ten candidates there.
We all had to say why we had chosen OT as a career and why we'd chosen Brighton. I felt I answered ok but some really experienced people there. I got a letter about a week after the interview to say I'd been short listed (at the interview they say they rarely offer place outright, they short list until everyone has been seen).
So I was really hopeful. Then got the letter today
I'm going to see if I can get an OT assistant job now. Are you applying to Brighton?

Re: Rejection Occupational Therapy Brighton
From interviewing for physio students this year, we had a lot of physio assistants that showed up. These people don't have an advantage in terms of universities actively seeking to recruit from this population, but they did tend to have a lot more to say in terms of why physio and what can you bring to the course. This was because they had in some cases years of experience in working with patients in different physio departments and so could give outstanding answers as to what goes on and what they have learned.
I think an assistant job would be a good way to spend the next year, but these are quite hard to come by from my knowledge. Give it a go though and good luck. If you want something enough then you'll get it. -
Got my feedback today, feel far less despondent. They said they really liked me and almost got a place. They said they advised me to get more experience and to gain another qualification, possibly an o.u module. I looked on their website today - £600 for a fifteen credit module!
No way can I afford that. Have to think about this...where there's a will there's a way! X
