    Completely lost science graduate
I hope this is the right place to post this but I really need some advice.
I have just graduated with a 1st in Biomedical Science. I had originally planned to study for a research masters at Glasgow uni as it would help give me more than my current 8 weeks of lab experience. I am still going to apply for it but whether or not I can do it is another story. Money woes as usual!
Anyway, it's seeming more and more likely that i'm gonna have to put off studying more for at least a year and like everyone else I really want to have a job that is somewhat related to my degree.
I understand it's pretty impossible i'm gonna be able to get an HCA job with the NHS and I have already applied and failed for an MLA post in Glasgow so I know I need to look elsewhere.
Everyone keeps saying look to industry. I am afraid this is gonna make me look pretty stupid (I swear I have tried to find out on my own!!!) but where do you find these jobs?! I have been told to google labs in my area and then visit their website but the very few I can find dont have a section on their website for careers/vacancies!
To conclude my superflous essay on my miserable situation, does anyone have any advice on where i'm best to look and what kind of work I can expect to get if I don't have a masters/PhD?

I'm in the same situation (sort of, I don't have a first!) but I'm trying to apply for the same jobs. Did you have a placement or any work experience during your degree? I look for jobs on Indeed.co.uk - google laboratory jobs scotland/glasgow or wherever you want. That's what I do anyway!

Why do you feel stupid applying for industry jobs? I apply of them, I'd say the majority are for people with more experience but there are a good few to apply for. I used to want to work in the NHS a lot more than industry but now I am thinking I want to work in industry (despite mothers worries that there is less respect in industry). It might get you experience if nothing else, even if you don't want to end up working in the area. Also, try looking on university websites, they often advertise jobs in the lab. These jobs are advertised on Indeed too - other sites are probably the same but I always end up back on Indeed when job hunting!

I have had a good few interviews for MLA posts and it is so annoying that I've been rejected from them all! They seem to hire people who have already been MLAs beforehand... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I look on LinkedIn too sometimes at the jobs I want to end up in and check on their career paths after BSc Biomedical Science, just to get some ideas of what jobs they started in.

Good luck, I'm having trouble getting anywhere but to be honest, I think a lot of my problem is down to personality and my shyness and lack of interview skills. i seriously think I would have gotten a few interviews I've done if I had talked better.

Oh - a few weeks ago I was looking on LinkedIn and saw one girl had down STEM ambassador as her first 'job'. I had no idea what that was (dunno if you do) but it's basically teaching science to kids, in schools or at festivals, things like that. I went to an induction day last week, it sounds really good! I'm waiting to hear back about 2 days teaching physics in September for Lab in a Lorry. It might be good experience. (At the introduction of other people there, I wanted to run out of the room - the first person had a PhD in Epigenetics, the second a PhD in Geophysics, the third was an academic/lecturer in something lol I thought everyone was going to have a doctorate but me!?). Here's the link: http://www.stemscotland.com/seas.html

You could try applying for PhD studentships? Very competitive but worth a shot!

Hey! nope the only experience i got was my 8-week project! Yeah I recently found indeed.co.uk actually and i'm pretty annoyed nobody told me about it sooner haha it's pretty good.
I don't feel stupid applying for them, i just can't find them! are they advertised on indeed.co.uk? There just seems to be NHS jobs :/
Well done on getting interviews, I haven't heard back from my application and I just sent off another one yesterday.
I've looked on linkenIn but i just get embarrassed because it tells you who's been viewing your profile! haha I also don't like how you can't seem to contact anyone without paying for it.
Thanks for the info and good luck with your job-hunt!!

You should have a look at the masters that the government help pay for. Im not completely sure of the ins and outs of it but i think they give you a loan or pay for you to do the course
