Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadI need the question in front of me, I would be willing to when someone uploads it, however i've got to get ready for my prom... so someone will probably have done it by the time tommorow comes and im ready to tacle the question...(Original post by maksokio)
Can someone that somehow did question 1 (with n=1 and n=-2) write it down? I am really interested to see how you worked with z.
Did anyone attempt Q6??? It was nice until the last part, i didnt know what to sketch!Last edited by desijut; 28-06-2012 at 16:54. -
Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadI think I got something similar, I can't really remember though(Original post by B Jack)
People who did question 4, does 12-16ln2 sound like the answer you got for ii)? -
Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadOnly 110-115? Blimey you must be losing your touch!(Original post by TheMagicMan)
So how did everyone find it?
Personally I thought it was a difficult one...I'm thinking about 110-115 for me barring lots of silly errors

Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion Thread
My paper had the first part of question 1 missing, which made the question a ‘guess the question’ question. An interesting challenge, but not something that I would chose in exam conditions.
Luckily, having tried what I think the question was supposed to be, I’m glad it was a non-starter. Here is my best shot -

Question 8, final summation was pi/4 right?
I liked that question....although initially the arctan stuff looked daunting

Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadI dont remember alot but it required a similar approach to the previous parts.(Original post by desijut)

Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadThat's what I got and I just checked it here.(Original post by B Jack)

Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadHow many solutions did you get, and what marks do you think you got?(Original post by Farhan.Hanif93)
Decent paper, probably average to slight above average difficulty. A lot of summation questions so if you enjoy those, you've probably done just fine. There was definitely something missing in Q1; wonder if that'll make any difference to the boundaries? -
Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadThey better compensate somehow! I wasted about 20 minutes trying to answer that question(Original post by Farhan.Hanif93)

Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadSo did I! Fibbonaci number questions are usually nice(Original post by Rahul.S)

Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion Thread4 fulls, two meagre partials. Somewhere between 75 and 90, I'd imagine (barring any serious mistakes)(Original post by jukebox123)

Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadMy guess is:(Original post by maksokio)
so what do you guys think about the boundaries this year?
S - 84
1 - 62
2 - 51
3 - 36
I imagine that the missing information in the first question will have meant that what should have been an easy question for everyone to start on was in fact a non-starter for most, which may affect the grade boundaries slightly (although there were plenty of other questions to have a go at, so it may not make a difference).Last edited by RacingPro97; 29-06-2012 at 09:32. -
Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion Threadyh I like those type of questions.....like q8 in II and q8 in III.
I remember trying to do prove via induction initially for the Fibonacci- but almost instantly decided a direct proof was called for. how was AEA btw? My bredwin was saying it was hard....harder than II!!! -
Re: STEP III 2012 Discussion ThreadI would think similar to 2010(Original post by maksokio)
so what do you guys think about the boundaries this year?
it was squared
