    Oyster Card London Help!!
    Hi all,

Basically I need some advice on getting an oyster card.

I am going to be in and out of london quite a bit this summer, but mostly in London. I.e all of July, end of August and all of September.

I'm in town on the 4th and was wondering what sort of card would be most appropiate for me? as an 18 year old. Is it possible to buy one at a station, and what is the standard procedure with obtaining an oyster, like do i need my passport etc..??

    Many Thanks

You can either go to a counter in a station and ask for one, you can obtain them from a machine - but they're harder to find. You don't need ID or anything like that for it.

Just go into any newsagents that have the Oyster card logo outside. Each standard Oyster costs £5 to activate it and such, you don't need any I.D. just make sure to keep it well topped up.

Also, if you have a railcard you can fill out a form at most underground stations and that'll link it to your oystercard so you'll get 1/3 off tfl journeys.

If you have a young person's rail card then take it with you. They can add it on to your oyster card and it sometimes qualifies you for further discount.

Normal oyster cards are easily bought from stations and sweet shops, no id required. There's also a visitor oyster card, you can find some more info here: http://visitorshop.tfl.gov.uk/

You can't get a student oyster because you don't live in London.
