Hi! please help me!i m in confusion! i received two offer from:
-Westminster, Ma Management (7,5k)
-Middlesex, MsC Management OR Ma Int.Buss. Management (9k)
In the ranking westminster is more higher than middlesex, and it is also triple accredited, how it could be cheaper??is it bad the Ma that i have chosen?and has middlesex business school a good reputation to be paid 9k?
Anyway i am gonna save money for the travel card (90pounds monthly)going to the mdx, so for me will be the same price!! but i want to take an academic decision!!and not cause of the money!!
please someone give me a suggestion... -

Can I know your academic background ? and are you open for any other universities suggestion ? -
Re: middlesex or westminster
Hi steve!thank u...
sure i am open for it, but my budget is max 9k!! i am not from uk,so i can't get the loan..
i know that ft ranking is the only good, but both uni are not in it so i have checked in other ranking like the guardian, and other ones...
I have taken the first degree in business administration in italy (score 99/100), and i would study management or finance here... -
Re: middlesex or westminsterI would suggest Brunel University fees around 12k. Let others also give there opinion.

Re: middlesex or westminster
Thank u so much steve... Unfortunately i applied yet to the brunel university, but they rejected me because they need more than 99....maybe like 97:110....
i would like to save my opinion about this, because it is absurd what they ask!!!they don't know how works the university in italy....
anyway i don't know what i do.... -
Re: middlesex or westminster
im going to be brutally honest here, you may not like what im going to say, but its the simple truth and im trying to help you make the best decision for the good of your life. Its up to you to accept my opinion or not, im just offering my advice here.
Lets put the whole budget thing aside. You mentioned you were rejected from Brunel. This is not a good indication of your academic ability, at least by UK standards. Quite frankly, if you are unable to gain admission to a uni like Brunel, you shouldn't be investing in further studies as it will not be worthwhile. Settling for universities like Middlesex, Kingston, Westminster etc., which are very low tier universities, will award you a masters degree, yes, but it will be of little or no additional value to whatever it is you currently hold. Not only this, such names carry bad reputations. Get into universities at least as decent as Queen Mary, otherwise please put your time effort and money to more productive things. Think about the decision you are making. Think about why you want this degree and about your expected ROI. -
Re: middlesex or westminster
drugs, I appreciate your advice!!and i want to know the truth..for sure you know more than me about universities in the uk... that's why i'm writing in this blog..
However talk about my academic knowledge, inviting me to think if this is the right career for me, seems a bit too much!!
I study management for 10 years! and brunel based own decision only on the degree score, there was not an interview!(acceptable criterion, cause it must evaluate thousands of applicants), but certainly with a rejection I'm not going to lose my self-confidence...
I am in the uk, firstly for the language and secondly because i don't like the bocconi style (Italy)... so i prefer spend money for a normal degree here, and come back there... so this could be my add value..
Yesterday i sent my enrollment to the Queen Mary...we'll see..for sure i'll get a rejection... -
Re: middlesex or westminsterI strongly disagree with Drug's notion that Westminster will not add any value to your educational portfolio. Don't be easily convinced by the opinions of people. Look at facts as well. Kingston for example, has graduates who went on to become trainee solicitors in top 50 law firms. Westminster has more. This is only a tiny indication that you don't have to go to the top ten universities in UK to know that you have made a sound investment. Do your own research into your universities. The competition for Queen Mary is fierce so look at Universities like Coventry, Kingston and Westminster. They may not have as many applicants as Cambridge or Queen Mary and they may not be as high up in the tables as those two prestigious Universities but being a part of institutions like that will not only refine your skills and knowledge but they will also give you degrees that will catch the eyes of employers in many countries outside UK. My friend for example, told me about how he could get paid more and be more employable in his home country(outside UK) just for having a UK degree.Good luck(Original post by edrienne13)

Re: middlesex or westminsterWhy do these name carry bad reputations? Because of people like you who still set stereotypes that new unis are bad. Leave them alone. They could rank lower on some stupid British rankings but it doesn't mean they are bad or useless outside the UK. I find it really cruel to judge unis based on how old it is. Who cares about Red bricks, Glass plates and ex poly?! The society has changed - a lot (Yes, I mean a lot) graduate people from new unis offering cheap courses are now so successful in their careers. Why? Because these courses are more affordable, handy, vocational and useful. What's the purpose of study a general degree in an "old uni" when the job market doesn't even need it?(Original post by drugs)

My sister studied Journalism at Thames Valley (now West London), she got an internship at BBC straight away. Her boyfriend studied Nursing there and now being full time employed. My boss is a Westminster graduate and he's extremely rich now (These people were the reason to motivate me to move from Australia to England to study postgrad). Only my partner graduating with a BA in African Studies (first class!) at Uni of Birmingham was unemployed for 2 years and now ends up working in a call centre. If courses in Westminster or Middlesex suits Ed so I suggest him to go with it. The whole world never care about ranking apart from people in the UK so just check the modules of each course and see which one you like the most.
I personally like MA Management at Westminster more as you become a memeber of Corporate Management Institute (CMI) for a year free. You'll meet lots of professionals to build up your network. -
Re: middlesex or westminsterwhy is it known as that?(Original post by Physic)
Eastmeetswest, I think you are making assumptions here. These reputations are not always stereotypes. There are still some very bad universities, like there is with anything else. I think it does pay to listen to student experiences of universities, and not the nice prospectuses that universities publish. Also, students often become future employers.
I know three people that left courses at Brunel University (also known as Brothel University) for better universities last year alone.
Some lecturers were virtually retarded, and there were rumours of gun crime and stabbings on the campus. A university is not going to get £000s from students if they put that in their prospectus.
