    house finance arrangements
This hasn't actually happened but may happen so anyway.

Basically, my boyfriend of two years has a desposit for a house. He's been saving since before I met him and puts money away weekly when he gets paid.

He is currently looking at houses to buy, he keeps saying though do I want to move in with him which I said yeah. y'know we've been together two years, sadly I don't have any money for a house of my own i've been saving since last year and still do not have much.

I'd be a lodger basically, but i'm not sure where I would stand if we spilt up say in five years time. i'd lose a lot of money and obviosuly would have no house. My dad reckons it's a terrible idea he doesn't know that i've said yeah i'd move in he just brought it up.

I mean would there be anyway of putting a contract of some sort in where if we did split i'd be entitled to something?
I'm really confused to be honest. I can completly see where my dad is coming from though.

If you're paying rent essentially then you're entitled to nothing. You'd need to be married or be included in the mortgage to have any rights to the home.

If it's a small place then paying half the mortgage may well be cheaper for you than renting privately on your own.

Depends on your personal situation then. If you're living at home then your Dad has a point. But if you're going to be paying for rent anyway, think of it as cheap rent rather than paying off a mortgage on a house you don't own.

Well I pay £150 atm at home. I have been looking to rent though it's expensive to rent in your own round here.

Well exactly. In that context it's not a bad deal, though bare in mind on top of food and rent you've got all the other bills that you may have to contribute to. Still cheaper than privately renting though.
