    Voluntary work and CRB checks...
    Hey there,

I'm hoping to apply for an upper primary PGCE in 2013 as there are a few things I need to do before then, like re-sitting those pesky maths and science GCSEs, which are going to be an absolute nightmare! For some reason Brighton University, where I'll be sitting the exams, are running the Higher AQA paper, which is a shock to the system considering I only achieved Ds on the Foundation papers. Eek!

Anyway, I've been invited to two primary schools in the Brighton area for voluntary work next week; one wants me to work as a volunteer for a full term, the other sounds more ad hoc.

Thing is, they're going on about me needing a CRB check before I can start. Will I have to pay for the CRB check?

I'm also wondering when is best to start applying to universities for the 2013/14 year?

Thanks, and good luck for those starting this year!

You're going to have to ask them. I've never paid for my own crb and I've had a fair few.

Thanks! They haven't mentioned any costs etc so I guess I should be OK.

I'm very nervous, but I'm excited as it'll serve as my first steps towards my PGCE next year.

Good luck, if you have to pay you could do well to ask about, I've been to a few schools now and non have required a CRB check for basic classroom observation
