Contact Lenses?
I want to get some contacts lenses for special occasions, and I was just wondering what is the smallest amount of disposable contacts available from places like specsavers and how much would they cost? Do I have to have an assesment or something to get contacts and how long will this take? I want to get some contacts by next week.

Re: Contact Lenses?
It takes a while, you won't have them for next week...
You need to have an eye test (prescription is different than to glasses), then they order them in which takes about a week, then you need to go for a lesson in how to take them out and put them in. They only let you take them home if they are sure that you can put them in/take them out safely otherwise you can seriously damage your eye.
I currently have monthly lenses, they cost £20 a month for one pair. Dailies are a similar price I believe. -

Daysoft make fantastic daily disposables - Ron Hamilton, the guy in charge of the company, actually invented them. They're £5.99 per box of 32 - I don't wear mine that often either, so they generally last me three months or even more.

You will need an assessment
Unless you have astigmatism or something you should be able to get some pretty quickly
I use Boots ... If you sign up for disposables they will usually give you some to take away with you -

My contact lenses cost £15 a month including regular check ups and reduced price glasses ... they would be cheaper if I did not have astigmatism in one eye -
Re: Contact Lenses?I've recently been there to order new frames, and in one of their pamphlets I did notice that they had a deal on contacts at the moment. I advise you go in and just go and see someone to get advice on whether they are right for you and how often you want to wear them.(Original post by dippers)

Re: Contact Lenses?
You can get some quickly.
If you already have a prescription for your glasses, you can make an appointment for a contact lens assessment and the optician will check your eyes and see what lens you need. Then a dispenser will go through putting them in and out with you a few times. You'll get a few trial pairs to go home with, then you need to go back for a second appointment. I had 9 days between my 2 appointments, so I got 9 pairs of lenses.
This was my experience at Specsavers. -

Re: Contact Lenses? Not at all - I didn't take it that way, and I'd rather you said something in case I didn't realise!
That's awful.when I was in my early 20s I went too long between appointments and had problems as a consequence ... a lack of epithelial oxygen caused serious bled vessel issues
Have your eyes recovered?

Re: Contact Lenses?
I think everything has been covered pretty much but one word of advice:
shop around
in Vision Express my contacts would cost £60 for 3 months (£20/p month but they come/ are charged in 3 months supply).
Boots Opticians they are £32 for 3 months (£12 p/month)
I was shocked at the price difference and am glad I didn't just buy them from my regular opticians that I was originally registered with (Vision Exp.)
also, whether you buy solution with the contacts (as in have it shipped with the contacts automatically) or just buy it in store, it works out at the same price in the long run. A "Monthly bottle" will cost about £7 for me if I get them off direct debit (£9 in store) but right now I have 3 more days before I change my contacts for the new monthly pair and there is still about a third of the bottle left lol -
Re: Contact Lenses? How long have you used that site for? 32 pairs for £5.99 seems too good to be true(Original post by Tortious)

Not at all - I didn't take it that way, and I'd rather you said something in case I didn't realise!
That's awful.
Have your eyes recovered?
I stopped wearing lenses for about 15 years until these newer ones came out
Then I was allowed to wear daily disposable very thin ones for no more than 8 hours a day (not every day)
I am now on normal wearing of monthly disposables though I try to limit time and days somewhat
But the vessels have returned to normal ... I do have more than regular check ups though and that is why I use Boots as they are will do them as and when I need -

As for check-ups, I've just been seeing an optician as normal - Asda has a handy FAQ covering most things.
