All but oxbridge, UCL, LSE, ICL.
Most universities don't discriminate on retakes. They appreciate that a candidate is willing to spent abit more time and determination in order to get into the course they want.

For one, Imperial don't even offer economics at undergraduate level....

A lot of universities will make decisions on the basis of whether a candidate has taken 3 years to do something or whether they've taken 2. If you have two perfectly good candidates and one has taken 3 years to get AAB and the other did it in the standard amount of time, then it's highly likely that the one who has taken their exams in the normal time period will be given the offer. Similarly, many universities will give a much higher offer to a candidate taking 3 years to do their A Levels so where the normal offer is AAB it might be A*AA for someone taking 3 years. And then yes, we have the universities who state that they do not accept students who have taken their A levels over 3 years.

It's not about appreciating whether someone has spent a bit more time and determination to get onto a course as it would be far better if they had achieved the grades the first time around. If someone is resitting the year and taking "a bit more time" to get the grades it's because they didn't meet the requirements the first time around. That, in general, is not a positive thing and given the competitive nature of university applications it is certainly something which will be held against applicants when universities are making decisions. This isn't to say that someone who is resitting their A levels can not and will not be made an offer, as plenty of people are, more that universities can and will use resits to chose one candidate over another.

Julia, remember that at this time of year a lot of people feel that they've not met their offer and begin to panic. Most people end up doing fine on results day and do meet their offer. In terms of if you did decide to reapply you would need to speak to the universities and find out their policy on resits, whether you would be considered and what their typical offer would be if they did make you an offer. It may well be higher than AAB or it may well include all 4 A level grades and be AABB or AAAB. Use The Student Room to speak to other applicants applying for economics in a similar position to you.

Thank you! I really do appreciate this! I was wondering if I wrote that I only discovered I had dyslexia last summer could this work in my favour!
