Driving round in circles...
So I've been learning to drive now for 8 weeks or so, and I've been doing 1 hour lessons each week, moving off, turning left stopping etc, but we've literally been driving round in circles doing nothing else...
The route is around a small block on a quiet road and I'm concerned my instructor cares more about his car and fuel than giving me road experience, I don't want to sound like a big-headed git, but I'm ready for some more challenging roads now, not the same back streets round and round and round and round for an hour! I've had enough of it!
I'm going to tell him how i feel at the end of tomorrow's lesson and if it's not fixed tomorrow a new instructor will be sought because at the moment I feel like the circles are just so he can extract cash from me!
Am I right or wrong? -
Re: Driving round in circles...
Well today he shouted at me, grabbed the wheel etc, all because he was chanting instructions at me, rather than letting me just get on with it, same old route - how do I tell him that I'm feeling ripped off?!
And no, I pay per week, but he has a habit of booking me in his diary anyway and then asking me if it's okay! -
Re: Driving round in circles...
Tell him bye bye and get another instructor - NOW
You are under no contract with that instructor so nothing to lose and everything to gain
Just because they are older than you does not mean they are right
I have this feeling that you think you are still at school ....... this is the real world so stand up for what is right - you are an adult -
Re: Driving round in circles...
After 8 weeks of driving I'd covered EVERYTHING that was required in the test. I was nowhere near test ready, but my instructor had at least let me have a good go at everything, and let me choose at the start of each lesson which thing I'd like to concentrate on. Change instructors if you're unhappy, don't be worried, you're the one paying.

Re: Driving round in circles...
Well bumping this, maybe I wasn't ready - now we're now doing manoeuvres and such (btw we work to a set 'plan' i.e. we work on one thing at a time) - the week after I posted this things got much better, and I meant 6th lesson when I posted this!
So yeah, didn't have to change instructor! -

8 Weeks ahaaaa!!!!
I went from never driving to passing, in.... 8 weeks.
You've wasted **** loads of money, he's taking the piss. We was on dual carriageways on my 4th hour, passed after 9 hours. And yes I am boasting.
Truth is you're lack of experience will show in everyday driving even if you did pass. Nobody can drive out the womb... practice makes perfect. -

Passing your test isn't about driving ability. It's about driving safe. And I'm completely aware of other drivers and I'm safe, I do speed but only when safe...
As I said, being a good driver in terms of DVLA is to be safe.
