An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State Visits
Hi everyone,
I have PM'd Nick and he suggested asking everyone. I have had an idea for a new way to link the two communities further. In RL, foreign visitors sometimes address the two Houses of Parliament. I would like to introduce this idea to the MHoC in order to strengthen the links between the two forums. I would select a representative from the MUN. The Speaker would make a statement introducing the representative. They would make a statement that they would submit to the Speaker prior to the 'visit' and the Foreign Secretary would then make a statement which would be submitted to the Speaker prior to the 'visit'. Anyone would then be free to ask questions in a Q&A session lasting perhaps three days.
This would bring new people to the MHoC, but also show MHoC members what happens in the MUN and I firmly believe that this could be good for both forums.
All feedback is welcome,

Re: An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State Visits
I don't see any reason for this. As far as I'm concerned the MUN is dreadful compared to the MHoC, and the links that the two groups share at the moment are already over the top. The fetishisation of this MHoC-MUN connection by certain obessives will just continue to distract from the nature of this place as a model legislature - you know, a place to debate legislation and policy! The level of debate in the MUN is shockingly poor, completely inauthentic and dominated simply by those members that persist in being active (compared to here where often the debates are quite decent). That's my feedback and you're welcome.

Re: An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State VisitsThanks. I completely agree on the MUN front, but I think that the MUN needs a huge overhaul. The problem is that people can't debate using their own views, but those of others and it creates a barrier. Almost if I can't give my opinion, then why bother? I think that this could have a positive impact on both places and I think that this expands the model further. State visits are part of RL politics so why not here? It could also help to solve the debating problem that I've outlined a little bit.(Original post by JPKC)

If the MUN has such 'bad' debating levels, then something like this would help to bring people across from either side and connect the two. It would help to solve the issue.... To the above that complained about the MUN and then said this idea was awful is just contradictory. Infrequent things like this would be interesting.

Re: An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State VisitsIt can only happen if you make a cringe worthy speech each time.(Original post by Metrobeans)
As much as I like the real Mr Speaker, me and a lot of the people near me were cringing when the Queen addressed Parliament and he referred to her as a 'kaleidoscope'. I would try to do a better job introducing the reps!
In all seriousness though, I do agree.

Re: An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State VisitsGreat idea - welcoming more integration with the MUN as I believe we do generally need to have stronger relations with them to tackle international issues.

Re: An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State VisitsI propose that in deference to an excellent English tradition, that only one cheese be presented per year, and that the recipient should be decided by having it rolled down a steep hill and chased by the delegates, with the winning nation receiving a commemorative 8ft diameter bronze statue of a cheese wheel, as well as the actual cheese.(Original post by barnetlad)
I think that it should be only small nations or those who love cats who should have state visits. They should be welcomed by morris dancing and be given a gift of Wensleydale cheese.
On as serious note, the state visits sound like a good idea to me.Last edited by chrisawhitmore; 29-06-2012 at 13:52. -
Re: An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State VisitsIunderstand the concerns because of the MUN's activity at the moment, but I think something like this would not only potentially open up the MUN but it might be advantageous to the MUN at least. I am trying all manner of things at the moment to improve activity and I think this might help. And since it would be unlikely to hurt the MHoC in anyway (feel free to say how if you think it would) then I think it's definately worth a go.(Original post by JPKC)

I don't really see how the links are over the top seeing as the links at the moment are minimal.
So I say yeah, lets go for it. -
Re: An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State VisitsI'll leave this open for a few more days and then I'll liaise with you about the potential first visitor.(Original post by thunder_chunky)

Re: An idea to improve MHoC - MUN relations - State VisitsOk, but we should first discuss with Nick the best way to go about this. If this is going to happen often we should have a proceedure.(Original post by toronto353)
