Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing! The long and short of it is that it's a high quality, extremely well spec'd tablet optimised for the newest version of Android at an excellent price point. In terms of functionality the iPad will do most of the same stuff and may even do it better depending on your personal tastes, and it also has a better selection of tablet-dedicated apps, and a larger display. However running Android has its extreme customisability, and it has a higher res, higher quality display, which coupled with the widescreen aspect ratio and form factor arguably make it a better device for reading and movies (depending on your priorities once again). It's all personal preference really.(Original post by CJG21)
I currently have an iPad 1, is there any point in me getting one of these? I haven't really looked at them but there is a lot of hype so what really is special about it? -
Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!yeah well a 10inch tablet would be fine with the same spec tbh, but people will just moan about the things missing like you said. It would have cost very very little to put a microSD on the 7 mind, seeing as most £50 phones have them anyway...(Original post by Gofre)
Haha I'll be counting down the days then
I don't mind really, the reason I bought the Nexus 7 was because it was barely over the £150 mark which is all I really wanted to spend, I doubt they'd be able to keep a 10" model sub-£200. By the time they add all the bells and whistles they'd be expected to like the rear camera, expandable memory etc it'll probably be approaching the "I may as well get an iPad" price level, which is what I wanted to avoid by limiting my budget.
Wait you got the 8GB model?! That's only like 5.5GB of storage! Madness!! 16GB the way forward :L -
Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!Neither would be enough storage for me to use a set amount of media, I use lossless audio so most of my albums weigh in at about 500MB each. Hi def video files are similarly large. So I'll be rotating what goes on my device either way so thought I may well save the £40 =P(Original post by burgergetsbored)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!you could yanno...not use lossless ? :P or is that not acceptable quality? xD(Original post by Gofre)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing! There is just one on the front which is a 1.2MP for video calling. Nothing on the back as putting a decent camera on the back (8MP) would ram the price up a noticeable amount.... Just use yer phone!(Original post by Snagprophet)
Isn't there a camera on the back? Can a 1mp camera suit our needs? -
Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!I'm an audiophile so not really =P my primary headphones are a £400 pair on in-ears, they really bring out the shortcomings inflow bitrate recordings.(Original post by burgergetsbored)

Nope, just the 1.2MP front-facing one. I personally have absolutely no need for a camera whatsoever so it suits me just fine though [=(Original post by Snagprophet)

Ah ok. I guess I don't really need it really. But surely 1.2mp camera on the front wouldn't be too good right?(Original post by Gofre)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!more enough for video calling. a bigger MP camera would require more data to be sent to chat online, which would then in some cases unless you have fast internet just be laggy.(Original post by Snagprophet)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!Cool. I'm definitely having a good look at this to see how it turns out. I'd like a try out on one in Comet or Currys or somewhere.(Original post by burgergetsbored)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing! The build quality looks pretty top notch, they obviously haven't been able to go nuts in terms of materials but overall it looks great considering he price!(Original post by Like_A_G6)
Made by ASUS so i'm expecting it to be a 7" version of the transformer prime tf201 without the keyboard and few other features. Still, I'm buying one! You can't go wrong with a good £190 tablet (16Gb)!
It marks a paradigm shift for the entire industry really, they're the first of any tablet manufacturer on the the market to put out a device of this calibre. It's going to singlehandedly eradicate the budget tablets from the likes of Archos. It won't cause much of a stir among the high end retailers like Apple and Samsung though, given the sheer disparity between the two classes of tablet.(Original post by ConnorB)
I've always avoided the Ipad on the basis that I think it is ridiculously overpriced.
This I think will be Apple's Ultimatum!
Meh, it will suffice for Skype and things. If you're using it for anything else, however, it means you're just using your tablet wrong!(Original post by Snagprophet)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!
Anybody got any advice.
I currently have the Nokia N8 phone running symbian belle it lags but it's bearable (but would prefer a smoother experience). The Ovi app store is terrible. It has a terrible selection of apps and the ones that are there are not the best. This is why I'm thinking of buying some sort of google android device.
I am thinking of buying either the galaxy nexus phone and not buying the Nexus 7 or buying the Nexus 7 tablet and keeping my N8. Which one should I choose?
Also would it be possible to get a micro usb adapter and stick a memory stick in the nexus for a bit more memory. -
Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing! Can't really compare them as they're two entirely different devices, the question is do you want a fast phone or a tablet? :P If I had the choice I'd personally get the phone, but that's only because I ALWAYS have mine with me and couldn't cope with a slow one, whereas the tablet just be for a bit of fun. But then again if you feel you can live with the n8 and just want a tablet for fun go for that.(Original post by . . .)

Yes you can get a usb-to-go cable for the nexus which will allow you to plug a memory stick in so you could just get a 64GB memory stick to store your big video files on

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!Yeah I'm just going to opt for the phone if I'm being honest. The slow phone is gets very annoying at times.(Original post by burgergetsbored)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!there's rumours of google bringing out a nexus 10 sometime soon (only rumours mind) anyway so buy the phone then save for when that comes out! :P(Original post by . . .)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing! Not really desperate to have a tablet. It's more of a gimmicky item in the sense it's probably nice to have but not something I want that much.(Original post by burgergetsbored)

Re: Nexus 7 tablet amazing!
Has anybody caught wind of any rumours regarding when they're going to start shipping? I've got to go up to university for a couple of days next week so I'm hoping we'll get a chance to see how it fares as a study tool, although I think that's going to be stretching the definition of "mid-July".
