I wish I could help more- but I did US politics in a2

But I can offer a formula:
    Introduction
Synopticity: this can be right/left- it can conservative/labour or perhaps even factions in the two parties. If you can name drop, that's even better!
Yes she was: List some points here- with good examples- perhaps comparison between her and other big PM's since then showing how she was better- or more prominent etc. Then link this to synopticity. e.g. This is a left wing view, or this is similair to the right wing view etc, you don't need to do this in every paragraph. Another thing you need to do is assess the strengths and weaknesses of your factors. e.g. you may think one factor has a stronger argument than the other.
No she wasn't: List the opposing factors here- good examples: again link to synopticity: left wing view, right wing view. Again for this side decided which factor you think is most prominent, and WHY (good marks for saying why).
Then conclude, this may seem a bit confusing now, I don't know- but I guarentee you once it comes to your first exam you'll be fine- and even better in your second- good luck.
One last thing, if you're struggling for factors, remember that you can go to the Edexcel past paper section, see if you can find your topic and look at the mark scheme.

i did Edexcel govt & politics last year so ofcourse i've forgotten quite a lot but in terms of a 45mark essay style you should always have an opening or introduction, (where you basically introduce your argument on whether you think thatcher was the most significant pm of the 20th century or not) personally, i would say she's had quite a significant impact on politics to date and that she's also been quite controversial ( with the poll tax and all that) however, there have been other prime ministers who have had a significant impact on politics, i.e tony blair.

then your main paragraph you basically expand your introduction point, but also, you have to counter argue. so for each point, you also have to put, although she did so so and so which was significant, she was also unpopular due to so so and so (if this makes sense). you should have atleast three good points where you argue both sides like that. it basically shows your knowledge of the topic and that you're able to see the topic from more than one angle. also, another important point, examples examples examples!!! v. important!! it is the difference between a grade B and grade A.

then for your final paragraph which is the conclusion, you basically reinforce the side you're arguing.

    hope this helps!
