    University preparation
    dear ex and current students

How does one go about preparing for university life? Obviously you can read and read about what to expect, what to bring and how much you need etc, but from your experiences, what personal skills are required to survive uni and how can we emotionally and mentally prepare ourselves?

otherwise i'll end up crying for the first few weeks

I'll hopefully be off to uni in September.
My families going on holiday for two weeks but I won't be going. So I'm going to practice eating and living on a uni budget

From what I've seen, you'll definitely need to work on your budget skills if you haven't already. I've seen old friends saying how they've been kicked out of their accomm (possibly a rented house) because they didn't have the money to pay the rent - most likely spent on going out.

Be prepared that you're not going to get along with everybody in some cases and I know of people that ended up not speaking to one of their flatmates for months and they still don't speak now because of different opinions which caused an argument.

Learn to cook - it doesn't have to be fancy, but you want to learn the basics before you go away, so that you have a foundation to build on. And try to do so without the use of saffron, smoked salmon slices and other such expensive ingredients!

Also try to learn not to be too OCD about cleanliness - student accommodation will never be as clean as that of your houseproud mother.

My mum gives me so much money a month that I have to budget on transport to college, food and buying myself a few school supplies but it isn't working yet - I keepgoing over my budget :/. Hopefully another year of this will have me prepared for Uni.

I also have to cook most of meals now with about 5 out of 7 of my tea being cooked myself and with the summer holidays starting I may learn to cook things that take longer than the 15minutes I'm willing to spend in the kitchen.
