I think you are missing a bit - the number should be 3 digits (unless they changed). To me e3 just means east side 3rd floor.
Although I just realised you might have missed the end bit off for privacy

Well the letter is the side of the building, the first number is the floor and logically there are only 100ish options on each side of each floor. So you're about 1/2 way along the 3rd floor of the east side - that's the side facing the rest of campus. The only thing you can't tell from the number is if it points out or to the quad.(Original post by librarian_chick)

E347 Is half way along the east side of the 3rd floor and because its an odd number that means you'll be looking outwards not into the quad.
