No one cares how anyone dances. Just move your arms about, and shuffle your legs. No one actually knows how to dance.

And it's OK to get a boner if you're grinding someone. Don't worry about it.

EDIT: Not sure if the OP is male or female however. If female, disregard the last comment.

Don't worry guys. I doubt anyone has professional training just so they can dance at prom.

My year 11 prom consisted of everybody just jumping about enjoying themselves not caring whether they could dance or not.

Then we had an after party at an acquaintances house. Again, nobody cared if you could dance, it was a time to enjoy yourself and I sure did

Luckily you aren't American so it shouldn't be an issue.

Unless you were getting confused and were actually talking about a ball.

In which case, just get really drunk.

I was thinking the exact same before ours a few weeks ago. Basically just lose your inhibitions cause that's what I did. I'm far from the best dancer in my year but if everyone is 'dancing' just join in with some of your friend. Even if you look like a complete idiot loads of other people will aswell so it doesn't really matter and at least you joined in. My prom was a bit awkward cause all the waiters sat at our tables and were laughing at us just sway to the beat and let the music take you away. Cheesy but true

Our school gave us dancing lessons beforehand so we'd all know how to do the Ceilidh dances which are mandatory at all Scottish social functions. Or maybe that's just where I live. But once that was over (decided to mix things up a bit and be the man, sparked some cheeky comments from the DJ I just grabbed my closest friend and said "This is the only one I actually like! Get up!" Hell, nobody cared.) basically everyone just bunched up in the middle of the room and shuffled around a bit. Then there was things like the macarena, everyone knows that, and 5,6,7,8 as well. Someone will know what they're doing, just copy.

I'm a dancer, and I feel like I'm being judged because of it, and for that reason I didn't want to dance at my prom. ;D
Whenever my group of friends went up to dance, I went to speak to a different group of people and I actually really enjoyed it. It was great to speak to people for the last time, something I wouldn't be able to do if I was up making a fool of myself. ;D

Just shuffle your legs and move your arms a bit, it will just come naturally :p: If that fails just copy other people, no one will even notice if you're a bad dancer, chances are most people probably will be.

Literally just throw yourself into it! I could give you 5 or more cliches about how you'll look more stupid if don't get involved but they really are true. Just relax and let your body respond to the music, I know it's easier for some but I'm convinced everyone can dance if they want to!

I remember this time last year when i had mine and i thought the same thing but just surround yourself with friends and people you feel comfortable with and copy them, nobody will think anything badly of you at all. Plus, you might not see some of these people again if you're going to different colleges/unis so just be like screw it, relax and have a great time. You don't want to look back thinking it was a rubbish night because you couldn't enjoy yourself or actually be yourself.

I don't even remember anybody dancing at mine, well not the boy/girl slow dancing type thing anyway (it was about 4 years ago now though! So some might of)
There was a bouncy castle, and these street dancers came in and everybody did the Soulja Boy dance. It was really weird.

I'm awful! I worry so much about making a fool of myself that I don't dance.

I didn't dance at my prom/may ball etc. Most people weren't to be honest though, it's a non-issue.

Probably don't dance with anyone you fancy, unless of course you're up for a 30 second shuffle to Hungry Eyes when neither of you really knows what you're doing before it gets awkward.

Prom's good fun, and nobody's going to laugh at you for anything. Everyone just wants to have a good time and then score at the afterparty.
