Can i do A2 Psychology if i did AS in 2004?
Hi all, i did AS Psychology at college in 2004 and i would love to top it up to an A Level. I was just wondering if anyone knew if its possible to do the A2 now and how i would go about getting it sorted??

When i did my AS i think it was with OCR. We had to learn about 20 case studies and then answer questions on them.

If you think this thread belongs in another section please let me know xx

A levels have had a massive overhaul in recent years, now there's 2 modules instead of 3, I'd imagine it would be pretty much impossible. Why would you want to anyway?

No you'd have to start again from scratch. The specification you took has been replaced. You cannot combine your AS results with A2 exams under the new specification.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies. I thought things might have changed since 2004, it was along time ago, lol. I only got 1 A level back then because i was unwell in college and for years after but i'm finally well enough to go back into education and it would be nice to have 2 A Levels (i have an A Level in Biology).

I'm going to start an access course part time either this year or next year. If i dont get a place on the course this year, i guess i could start the A Level again and do it in 1 year if thats possible. I thought it might be useful to do the A Level so i can get myself back into the habit of studying before i do the access course but i dont think you can do it in 1 year.

Also, Biology and Psychology are the ideal subjects for Occupational Therapy and although we study these modules on the access course i thought that having these 2 A Levels would give me a good background and deeper understanding of the subjects for the OT course.

Oh and i love to study, so i think i would get a good grade.

But yeh, thats why i want to get the A Level in Psychology  xx

You'd have to start the whole A Level again if you want to do the A2, as the syllabus has changed.

Nothing to stop you doing that and going with a board other than OCR though.

Would you reccommend doing it in 1 year or is it too intense? I liked OCR back then, i'd have to take a look at the syllabus for the other boards and see which one i prefer (and which one the college offers) xx

I did AQA Syllabus A and I wouldn't have wanted to do the whole A Level in one year. That said, it depends what your other commitments are for the year. The A2 is definitely content heavy and with the AS to sit as well, I wouldn't want to do both in a year unless I had nothing else to study in that year and a fair amount of time to dedicate to it. Also find out if there are any optional topics on the boards; if so, which options the college chooses out of those. AQA had optional topics at A2 and given the choice, I'd have done a different topic in the place of every topic I did at A2.

Re: Can i do A2 Psychology if i did AS in 2004?
    Hey,
Iv just finished doing an A level in psychology studying on my own and did it in about a year. I started end of February 2011 and sat papers 1+2 in May and june last year and then sat paper 3 this January and just sat paper 4 on 18th june.

It is possible but requires dedication to do it in a year.

But I wouldnt recommend it as for yourself it may be a waste of time as you already have the UCAS points for the AS and doing that section again just to get a full A level is a waste of time really ; I would advise doing another subject if you wish to study an A level.

    p.s

As mentioned you cant top up your AS as the syllabus has changed and you would need to start again from the beginning.
