Walking on Treadmill Compared to Walking Outdoors
Ok, so i have been getting up early and spending an hour walking on my treadmill and i feel fine during the workout. I'm going to work upto running but for now i'm happy with how i'm getting on.
The only problem i have is when i walk outdoors. Within 5 minutes, my calfs start to ache to the point where i cant even lift my feet.
Does anyone know whats going on? Could it be the uneven surface? I don't understand why the pain is so bad.
I really want to work upto running outdoors but i'm abit worried that i wont be able to.

It could because outdoor the surface is not always even (you get the best of both decline and incline at different degrees.) I recommend that you increase/decrease the incline on the treadmill to get the feel for different surfaces. I actually think that you're supposed to walk/run on an incline when on a treadmill because generally speaking, on treadmills you're going down rather than up (which can cause problems.) Incline also mimics outdoor walking.

I have no incline on my teadmill
I don't know why i got it without an incline. Its a good model tho, its 'York Fitness' and it takes up alot of space, lol . Its the one my mum chose and one that we could afford at the time.
I'll have to make time to go to the gym and use the treadmill there. It so much easier to roll out of bed and just jump on the treadmill, lol xx -

When you're walking on a treadmill you're usually in a room of a comfortable temperature with a constant speed and a flat surface. Outdoors you'd have different types of surfaces with incline and possible wind resistance and differing temperatures to contend with. If your treadmill allows you to, try slightly increasing the incline. Exercising for an hour is great, but you'd probably be able to get the same fitness benefits, if not better, from working out for less time but working harder during the workout (ie by adding incline or increasing speed). Ideally you want to be pushing yourself so that you could speak but not sing; that kind of breathlessness.

I have bad kness and a bad ankle, so i'm doing things slowly and easy untill i feel i can work out better. I'm also eating healthy to lose weight. xx(Original post by xoxAngel_Kxox)

Fatigue, insufficient rest, you're out of shape, incorrect shoes, malnourishment...
Take several days rest, make sure you're wearing quality walking or running shoes, eat properly (ie; plenty of protein rich foods and don't restrict calories) and gradually start doing more walking outdoors. If you still get problems you need to see a podiatrist and/or physiotherapist.
