    - Doing my own laundry I've no idea how to operate a washing by myself.
    - Budgeting and I'm quite a impulse buyer.
    - Presentations.
    - Being shy around people for a while I'm going to have to try not to be and get to know people.
    - Getting lost if I'm not used to the city.
    You sound just like me!

All-night essay writing sessions? Erm. Oh yeah, horrible parties. Don't like those. It's going to be good, despite those, though.

Just don't tell anyone. Won't make a difference.
Haha, I guess. It could potentially backfire... but we'll see I suppose!

Good to see some linguists in this thread... I'll hopefully be studying German + Spanish.

i know this sounds a bit weird and sad but- making friends.
sometimes i think "hell yeah i'll make loads!" but other times i think i'll arrive in my room, sit on my bed and shake and quiver at the prospect of people coming into my room.

also- i don't really do the whole drinking scene, so i dont fancy being dragged out to bars etc in freshers week.
oh yeah, and- my subject is quite 'unpopular' in the sense that not many people do it (yup its languages) and the other people in my year doing it may be humungous w*****s.
Loads of people do languages; some are more popular than others mind. You will also find that lots of people in other subjects will attempt to take languages at some point in their degree as well.

As long as you are not doing Italian you are fine!

    Ooooh nice xD
I'm going to Edinburgh, Mum was pacified by that as its not far from home so i can get home relatively quick if i need to. But i can't wait to go!! xD I don't envy you going to an English uni though! Don't they get an extra year in school in England?
Ah, awesome. What are you going to study? A guy I know is going to Edinburgh, he's lovely when he's sober, his drunken alter-ego is chaos personified. That's good then. I love Edinburgh, it's such a great city! Haha, no, I'm really excited to go. Yeah, they do, so seeing as I live in Scotland it's going to be too far to visit (part of the appeal to be honest ) and with the extra year of school in England, everyone will be over 18 more or less. I'm going to be such a baby! :bawling:

Those first couple of weeks where there's only a few of us with the confidence to speak up in class/get a group together/socialize.

Getting lost a lot (that's a lie, can be good fun).

    Deadlines.

If it's of any use, I do German at uni and during freshers it was quite a talking point with the people I met (especially my flatmates) because so few people do it. Languages students also seem to be quite like-minded in general, so that helped with the friend-making with my coursemates. You'll be fine!

Re: What are you NOT looking forward to at university?
    The biggest worries I have:

It turning out I don't actually like my subject anymore.
I look absolutely stupid compared to everyone else, up till now I've always been one of the best in most of my subjects but at uni that will almost definitely change.

As for things that are definitely going to happen rather than maybe:

Looking like a right prat. It will happen, and I will hate it.

Re: What are you NOT looking forward to at university?
Already at uni, but something I was worried about was finances, and it seems I was right to worry about that - especially when I lost my job of nearly 3 years mid second year and couldn't find a new one

Also workload, but it isn't as bad as people think once you get used to it. One thing I am worried about is the third year dissertation and the fact I should probably start my reading for it :P

Guys who wear really skinny-tight chinos and those slipper looking toms without wearing socks and tight shirts with those really deep looking V neck shapes showing their chest; Guaranteed *****. Oh, and girls who admire them

It'll most likely be my first proper experience of being on my own in a new place and being independent so I'm quite scared I'll get lost or not be able to manage my finances well.

You'll be fine, I met some of my best friends at university.
Remember, everyone is in the same boat and it's unlikely you won't find someone you click with.

    Money worries
Being able to socialise (I have anxiety and going to be living in private accommodation off campus with non-student boyfriend)
Finding friends who are happy to not go clubbing or in busy/crowded/loud pubs (hearing impaired as well as having anxiety so I wouldn't be able to hear anything).
Orientation round campus as new environments especially with noise or lots of people can be very stressful
Apart from that, I'm fairly excited!

I have an irrational fear of not making any close friends so not having anyone to share a house with after 1st year.
