The main differences are the price, portability and too some extent the spec.

I would really say the pro because you'll be doing a lot of editing, so an i7 would be very good, a lot of ram and having a good amount of storage and maybe the optical drive as well.
Though having a SSD makes up for the cpu in many aspects, but storage would be limited depending on the amount of cash you have, as higher storage on an Air comes at a large cost along with an i7.

Have you ever thought also about a laptop from another maker? Which would be a cheaper option if you got any budgetary issues.

Don't bother with the Air if you're going to do photoshop editing, videos and storing photos. You'll need the HDD space and the better processor. The Air won't match your needs as the processor will bottleneck you a lot.

To be honest depending how much photoshop/videos you do, I would suggest the 15" models if you can afford it for the i7 quad and gpu.

Photoshop and Sony Vegas works perfectly fine on PCs.

He didn't ask that. He asked about Apple computers so don't understand why this comment was necessary :s

I was wondering the same thing re OP. I'll not be using it explicitly for photo editing and such but will do some. Mostly will be used for web browsing, music editing and general office. Need it to last me at least 4 years hence why I'm going with a Macbook as have found all my PCs (especially laptops) have their performance drastically reduced within 2 years (not because I fill them with crap on the HDD )

I'm tempted to go for the Air as IMO the current Macbook Pro will be phased out next year and the Air will technologically withstand the test of time a bit better. Only problem is I'd also need an external HDD for the Air as I have an extensive media collection

I think an Airbook Pro is better. Air is lighter, so is more effective, should you want to take it with you.

^ Airbook Pro? That would make the decision so much easier if they actually existed!

If you're really into editing and photoshop I would suggest the Pro as well. They're not that heavy, I've been carrying about my old 13" MacBook for a few years and while it's a bit of a weight it's not unbearable if you have a shoulder bag with decent straps.

I don't know what your budget is, but I would go for the upper level 13" one. I think you'd benefit from the extra 4GB RAM it has (I have 4GB in my current Macbook, I use it for similar things to you and it's not enough) it has the big hard drive for storing all your stuff.

The Air wouldn't be a bad choice (if you specifically wanted something lightweight) and it has the SSD which will make it overall quicker, but I'd go for the Pro in your situation because of the RAM and HD size (but again this could be solved by buying an external hard drive in you really want an Air).

You won't regret buying a Mac, I was unsure at first when I bought mine (4 1/2 years ago) since my family are all windows windows windows, but best decision I made. I've just bought my second Mac (Retina MBP) and I don't think I could go back to windows now!

    Mac Air

    Pros
    Thin
    Cheaper than mac pro
    Still a powerful laptop

    Cons
I got told there is no DVD/CD drive

    MacBook Pro

    Pros
    Very powerful
    DVD/CD drive

    Cons
    Expensive
    Thicker

Sounds like a MacBook air would do

I think the best option is to get virtual PC on a mac as it means your laptop isn't out of use 18 months after buying it

    Casual use: Air.

Actually use of the machine, Pro.

"photoshop, fashion, photography, making videos, editing, storing pictures etc"

You'd use up the 128GB on the air in no time.

The Air and the Pro is the same price. In fact it was the Air which was more expensive until June 2012 where Apple dropped the price.

Is the air not £849 and the pro £999?

I would get a Pro and then stick a SSD in it, for your purposes. Best of both worlds (excluding cost).

I don't see how USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt is relevant.

The 11" is. The 13" Air and 13" Pro are the same £999 price.
