2 additional 1st year subjects
How flexible/willing is Glasgow in terms of what 2 extra subjects you study in first year? I'm starting marine biology in september and intend to choose maths as one of my extras which I assume will be fine, but I've been thinking a lot about taking gaelic as my other.
Will this be feasible? Are you strongly encouraged to choose subjects complimentary to your degree (I can't imagine gaelic will be useful for studying marine biology)?
Thanks. -

To go anywhere further than first year with life sciences, your second subject MUST be either chemistry or science fundamentals (idiot chemistry). However the third can be anything you fancy as long as the time table fits, which it generally always will.

Re: 2 additional 1st year subjectsAw well, that's not too bad. I would have preferred to study maths but chemistry's one of my best subjects. It says on the website and my big book of all the courses(forget what its called) that you choose 2 additional subjects 'according to your interests', doesn't mention anything about chemistry or science fundamentals(Original post by LSD)

That's very odd. It's always been a case of life science students having to do minimal chemistry in first year, regardless of which Life Sciences plan You're doing. I'd never done chemistry in school so had to take science fundamentals. It's always been like that, I suppose they could've changed it for this coming year but that seems really unlikely!(Original post by Sniggey)

I'm sure you'll find out soon

those are degree level subjects, life science students don't specialise until 3rd year. You can however take level 1 biology, you'll be in the same class as all the first year life science people, but you won't be able to take biology any further after first year unless you take level 1 chemistry or science fundamentals along with biology this year.
