Lump in breast :/
I have a small lump in my left breast and its really painful!
I first noticed it about a week ago and the pain has got gradually worse. It's sort of under my breast if that makes sense, and its not very big but it really hurts.
I'm on my period right now so I'm thinking its probably just because of that but there's a definite lump there and nowhere else in either breast hurts or has any other lumps.
Is this common if you're on your period or could it be a cyst or something? Please help, its really painful! -
Re: Lump in breast :/
Many women find that painful lumps develop in their breasts during the time of their period, these usually go away quickly and are benign. I noticed a lump several years back and my mum fussed until I went to the doctor but it turned out to be just this.
Seeing as you are on your period I would at first though assume the above however I cannot stress how important it is to go to the doctor about these things. It's always better to be safe than sorry and ignoring lumps is pretty risky. Maybe book an appointment for a couple weeks from now and wait to see if the lump goes away soon after your period? If it stops hurting and softens out then you can be pretty certain it was just a symptom of PMS but you can have the check-up anyway to put your mind at ease

Re: Lump in breast :/
if it's painful then it's unlikely to be anything to worry about (as in the big C)... at the same time it is always better to be safe than sorry, it could be a cyst, it could be hormones... it is VERY common to get painful lumps in boobs around periods... it is VERY unlikely to be anything dangerous. you should go to the doctor, it's not at all embarassing... they will probably refer you to the hospital to get a scanned. like i said, always better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Lump in breast :/
It could be all sorts of things.
The TSR health forums are pretty much redundant whenever we say this, but it's true: Go see the doctor. If it isn't anything, then you can be re-assured and better prepared as to how to proceed in future. If it is and you didn't get it checked just because on TSR we told you that it could be a cyst, or a transient inflammation related to the menstrual cycle, then you'd be kicking yourself (and us).
Just get it seen to. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, and it won't be beaten if we encourage an attitude of wait-and-see - the earlier it's detected, the better the chance it can be totally treated these days. -
Re: Lump in breast :/
If you find a lump, go to the doctor.
It's as simple as that.
In this country, it is free to do so, so there's no reason not to go and do it.
Surely it's better to get checked out and for it to be nothing than for you to assume it's nothing and then not g to the doctor and it be something? -
Re: Lump in breast :/Thanks, I will probably go to the doctors if its still there in a week or so.(Original post by Beige_Angel)
