I like the way most beers taste, especially carling zests :coma:
Plus it makes me confident, so win win.

I was just wondering why alcohol is so popular e.g. at nightclubs. I've heard that it tastes horrible, but people drink it to the extent that they are sick and have to be looked after and the next morning you forget most of what you did when you were drunk. I don't have anything against those who drink nor will I pass judgement on peoples' drinking stories. I'm just curious about why alcohol is such a big deal at parties and even formal dinner meals. For example, I have seen episodes of "Come dine with me" where contestants have marked each other down or complained a massive amount merely due to a either no or a lack of alcohol.
it makes people more friendly. people will interact with each other with less hesitation or inhibition.

Go try it and come back

Honestly, I don't drink much and the first time I ever drank enough alcohol to have an effect was on my 18th. You'll notice when it's affecting you, and you probably won't go and throw up unless you keep drinking past that. If you're already a bit curious without having tried it, I doubt you'll end up utterly senseless as you'll be checking every now and again "how do I feel?".

It's hard to explain. Words aren't very good at expressing changes in your state of mind.

As for taste, well beer is bitter, but it's an acquired taste and I feel myself coming to like it a bit more now. It doesn't have to taste bad, we have more [insert spirit here] and coke combinations than I can think of.

removes inhibitions and makes socialising easier
personally ive never really noticed it having a bad taste though, some of them are just acquired like whiskey but alcohol like vodka doesnt even have a flavour [unless you buy a really ****ty one or flavoured of course] so hey ho

How do you know its overrated if you don't drink?
Fair enough. Maybe a wrong choice of word. Its just I hear a lot about people getting drunk and how they cannot wait to get drunk, as if alcohol is the most and/or only exciting thing about going out.

Not all alcohol tastes horrible, some alcohol on its own is disgusting, like vodka, but mixed with something like coke is nice Ohh and some cocktails are delicious, like sex on the beach

It just loosens everyone up. Drinking to the point you are drunk is done because it is fun and it is so different from being sober. There are probably better drugs but it is legal and socially acceptable.

For alcohol to lower your inhibitions don't you have to get drunk? But you forget about it afterwards, and if being more "free to be yourself" involves damaging your liver and losing fantastic or regretful memories, doesn't it seem like a waste of time and money. Is it hindering people to look for more long-term ways of being carefree and having fun?
Deary me you are a buzzkill. No you don't have to get drunk. You can get slightly intoxicated which can lighten your mood and make you more confident/talkative etc etc.

No, you rarely forget what happens unless you consume A LOT of alcohol. Oh no damaging my liver? Everything damages us in some way.

Look it's pointless trying to argue with you when you clearly have never been drunk in your life. So why don't you stop asking other people and do it yourself.

I am not actually interested in drinking but I like to read everyone's views, different people have different reasons.

    Yeah man,

at least have been drunk to say your ****, but you've never been drunk.

I'm a confident guy and can have fun without alcohol, but alcohol makes everything better, I hate to admit it, but I have more fun drunk than sober tbh lol

and I'm sure many will agree. It's not getting drunk to have FUN as such, getting drunk to have EVEN MORE fun lol!

I've only ever drunk one alcoholic beverage - st. paddy's this year (I think you can guess what) - I wasn't a great fan of the taste but jeez it got me drunk lol. If you want to start drinking I'd highly recommend NOT starting with a Guinness the taste was a bit strong for my liking lol.

Erm, you don't actually lose your memories that easily. I got so drunk once that I spent the entire night well.... retching, but I still remember it just as well as one of my sober nights out. Like everyone else says, you realise how much is right for you to have a good time with everyone.
