Re: Doctors said I have ovary failure :( Shall I get a second opnion?I think you should get a second opinion for something as important as this. I feel really bad for you. Must be terrible(Original post by Anonymous)

It is not standard procedure for a doctor to just go 'Oh by the way your ovaries have collapsed' and send you packing... A second opinion on the initial diagnosis may be pointless - but you should be having follow-up appointments, potentially more investigations (scans?) and people talking to you about this anyway, because I'm sure discovering such a thing is upsetting at any age, but especially so young.
Certainly if this isn't happening something's wrong, and you should arrange to see your GP (I'm guessing a specialist did the diagnosis) to talk about it. A second opinion is all well and good, but unless you have cause to believe they're wrong - e.g. if your GP did a single blood test and has insensitively just sent you away with HRT - it doesn't sound like what you're looking for is a second opinion, but some actual contact and help around it, and some solid confirmation beyond just an arbitrary decision based on a blood test.
By all means you're entitled to a second opinion; all I mean to say is that there's a good chance it'll come back the same, and what sounds to be missing is the actual confirmation of the diagnosis and then the communication, help for you around this... A second opinion won't make things go away

Re: Doctors said I have ovary failure :( Shall I get a second opnion?Well I've had a scan and a blood test and my scan came out absolutly fine and my blood test was also fine so I had an appoiment gynecologist and they we're confused and said they don't know what's really going on, so we rescheduled another appoiment with the same gynecologist and he said he can't seem to figure out why my tests came positive? and it has to be ovary failure. So I suggested to be put on any kind of medication and they gave us HRT tablets. After that I've been having regular periods but the doctor said the I'm having these periods becuase of the HRT tables and this is what the tablets do and he told me to carry on taking these tablets. I have no idea where to go from here?(Original post by Friar Chris)

Re: Doctors said I have ovary failure :( Shall I get a second opnion?Go speak to your GP about it - you're seeing a specialist, but GPs are usually very good at communicating what's going on in friendly straightforward language moreso than hospital consultants.(Original post by Anonymous)

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't put you on HRT unless they had found a distinct hormonal imbalance that required it in the blood tests, by the way. The GP should have your notes (*cough* should, lol), so may be able to better explain that too!Last edited by Friar Chris; 30-06-2012 at 16:14. -
