    History EE - Criterian D
Hi all, I am going through each criterian for my Extended Essay, however I am having trouble with what is meant by criterian D. In order to get a level 4(the highest), the essay 'clearly and precisely locates the investigation in an academic context'. Academic context is then desribed as 'the current state of the field of study under investigation'. Would anyone be able to shed some light on this issue?

    Thanks.

I didn't do my EE in History, but the criteria are the same for everyone so this is how I got it: your investigation needs to show academic qualities that tie in with the field or area you are working in. For example, since you're doing it in history, your essay needs to look every bit like a historical investigation. You need to show that you understand how to do a historical investigation, not any other type or research paper.
Moreover, you need to show understanding of your specified topic. The way I see it is that with this criterion you are supposed to show why and how your topic fits into the historical framework. Also, as the criterion description reveals, your research question must allow for systematic investigation.
All in all, you should be doing a purely historical investigation (this is not to say you can't or shouldn't tie it with other areas - what I'm saying is that it should look like a historical investigation) with a relevant research question.

I hope that sheds some light
