Hey I'm looking for some enlightenment here.

I went to Leeds open day and looked at the music department and loved it - in particular the fact that they let you focus more on popular music and give you plenty of pathways to pick. But looking at information on other universities websites it seems that most places are exclusively classically focused.

Am I making a misjudgment? To what extent?

Are there any music courses that are similar to Leeds?

Maybe Liverpool will suit you! I have heard that there is quite a lot pop music courses.

I didn't do many researches about that, since I look for more classical programme. But I have heard of my friend (who is more on the classical side as well) telling me that those pop music courses had driven her crazy. HAHA

Many of the courses offered by unis allows students to choose their first study/major in the 2nd year, after finishing the 1st year general music education . If you do not want to block out your options and possibility in music, I believe that it won't be hard for you to find your favourite course!

Southampton used to do a fair bit of pop music, e.g. songwriting courses etc
