Brother reversed into my car.
About a week ago. I was at my older brother's house, to pick up my mum. He had to leave for work and reversed right into my car as shown in the pic. Not sure how as he drivers a 3-series and they sit quite low. Not going to lie, it was pretty funny as I was watching it as it happened from his front window with his son.
Anyway, he wants to do a guvvy job to preserve his 9-years no claims, which is apparently protected. I'm not exactly cool with a guvvy job as it'd probably be a bit half-arsed and I'll still have the scratches as well. What isn't cool either is that my brother keeps saying that he wants me to get into an accident so that I can claim off someone else's insurance (joking or not).
I'm in no particular hurry as I cycle around a lot more at the moment, but at the same time, I would rather get it sorted sooner rather than later. Luckily, compared to previous incidents, I know who did this, so it's no onus on me to pay for it.
What do you guys think would be the best thing to do?

That's what he did. -

He's pussy footing around. Not like he can't afford it, but he seems set on doing it for as cheap as possible or not wanting to get it sorted out at all. -
Re: Brother reversed into my car.Well then set a date, say 1 month from when you tell him, and say if he hasnt got it professionally sorted out by then you'll file a claim. That should give him more of an incentive(Original post by Tabris)
Already posed it to him.

Re: Brother reversed into my car.I second this.(Original post by Stevo F)

This. No other person would agree to have it done on the cheap if he'd reversed into their car so he shouldn't think he can get away with it because you're family.(Original post by Stevo F)

Re: Brother reversed into my car.
Take it to a garage you trust and ask them to quote for how much to do the work to a satisfactory standard.
Take that quote to your brother and ask him which he prefers - pay for the work to be done at YOUR preferred garage to YOUR preferred standards, or pay through his insurance.
If he pussy foots around thereafter, just put the claim in. -
Re: Brother reversed into my car.
i think the problem lies in that you need to report the accident to your insurance company within a reasonable time or they could refuse you cover in the future. there is no specified time as to what a 'reasonable' time is, but a month is too long imho....
can you not get your parents involved? in my opinion, if he can afford to own a BMW, he can afford to have the job done at his expense......also i would be interested to see how he would replicate such an accident with another person just because he is a **** and wont pay for something he has done -
Re: Brother reversed into my car.Unfortunately the problem lies in the fact that OP's brother is refusing to sort it out properly!(Original post by drummer)
He's your brother, let him sort it out for you and don't take it to the insurers. -
Re: Brother reversed into my car. There is no door where the damage is :L(Original post by _vilaseca_)
Doesn't look that bad? the doors near enough caved in! -
Re: Brother reversed into my car.
Take it to a couple of proper body shops, ask them for quotes.
Show them to your brother, if he isn't able to pay the amount quoted then he must go through insurance. He also should notify his insurers of an accident even if he isn't claiming.
It looks like a newish car and it will be worth less when you sell if it's had a rubbish repair. Don't let him take the mickey just cos he's your brother. -
Re: Brother reversed into my car.Same argument could be used otherway, the idiots brother is the OP so he should help a brother out and try getting the best repair done.(Original post by PataynaRolaay)
Lol he's your brother, dont get insurance involved, just let him sort it out in his own time
And take him up on the crash scheme thing -
Re: Brother reversed into my car.
That looks like a new rear wing panel to me. forget about getting a half-arsed panel beater job, anyone with a decent eye will spot it a mile off and you would struggle selling it later on.
and tell your brother to go for an eye test if he cant reverse without noticing a car in his rvmLast edited by Indo-Chinese Food; 01-07-2012 at 14:48. -
