Last game you finished + rating
Stolen from a different forum, but it's a good way of amalgamating game reviews across platforms.
Let us know what you have just completed, and what you thought of it!
Resident Evil 5 - 7/10 - No doubt would have been lower if I wasn't playing Co-op as Sheva is as bad as I'd be in that situation.. Still, fun. -
Re: Last game you finished + rating
New game..
Spec ops - the line.
7/10
Such shooters aren't my favourites and this one was pretty standard for most of it, but certainly kept me interested with differences.
Ammo was more scattered, no more practically unlimitd Ammo like some games.. oo balance between action, scripted stuff and cut scenes. visuals were good and the areas you fought in were nice.
Story was the best part. A few decisions you could make, particularly to the end, forced to kill innocents and watching the character react through the story him questioning if he is doing the right thing and such. Made a change to the usual 'being the hero' in.some games.
Perhaps not enough differences in what happens, I.e. in call of busy using lots of vehicles, air support missions etc but there was enough. -

Max Payne 3 - PC
7/10
Graphics are decent, shooting is mostly fun and it's challenging enough. The AI is also decent - enemies actually attempt to close in and flank, unlike many cover shooters, where they just sit still and wait for you to get a clear shot at their head...
The storyline is hit and miss... ranges from brilliant to downright retarded. Plus there are some seriously dodgy camera angles / obstructions that result in cheap deaths at times (and a few too many cheap deaths in general, TBH)... could have done with a little more polish.
Main gripe is that the character is blatantly NOT Max Payne... and aside from a few references to the back-story... the game has nothing to do with the originals. He could literally be any "down on his luck" ex-cop... it feels like a bit of a franchise cash-in, as the exact same game could just as easily have been "Bob Smith 1" without changing the storyline at all.
Personally I'd have preferred a reboot with these gameplay mechanics, graphics and AI rather than a flimsy sequel. Might just be me, though! -

Batman Arkham Asylum - 8/10 - Platinumed on PS3.
Was fun, For an old game I expected it to be a typical movie game but it was so much more. Not only is it brilliant for learning more about batman as a whole. The boss battles are fun with different mechanics. I found that regardless of the limited ways the game could go combat wise. They managed to find more ways to change the combat mechanics and the boss mechanics so you'd always have something new to learn. The first game I was actually motivated to platinum. The challenges were fun at first but this is where the game falls short. They were rushed and were fun for about 20 minutes before they just started to fustrate me. -
Re: Last game you finished + rating
I finished the game Dots,on not doppler, after playing on it 4 years recently-the bad thing is it doesn't save so I have to keep winning it again to see if I can beat my high scores, which still makes the game interesting after you have completed it. Definitely 10/10 rating-There aren't many games I have played since I started Secondary School.

Hack, Slash, Loot (PC) - 8/10
If you've played any roguelikes in the past then you pretty much know exactly what you're going to get with this - randomly generated levels, enemies and loot, minimalistic graphics and sound, and a beast of a difficulty rating. Each new game is only five levels long, but potions and other items that regenerate health are so seldom found that in many cases you'd be lucky to see the second or third level, let alone get anywhere near the last. Randomness adds to the challenge for sure, as you never know what's behind the next door and whether you can survive it, but it keeps the game from becoming stale too quickly, with the game easily having lots of replayability.
That was the last game I finished for the first time. Just for the hell of it I've also been having a shot at speed-running some old favourites like Sonic 2 (via a Mega Drive emulator) and Uplink, having been a little bit transfixed by watching speeddemosarchive's speed run charity marathons. -
Re: Last game you finished + rating
So after a 7 hour marathon I can get back in here and post again!
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception 10/10 - Oh man. It was a bit of a slow start, but once you hit chapter 5 or so, it really really kicks on. The middle third of this game was so unbelievably addictive, and I'd done well to avoid my brothers (and so story spoilers) so could enjoy the twists and turns of the story. The gameplay was slightly sharper than 2 I think, and I particularly enjoyed the hand-to-hand combat sections. It was obviously gorgeous to look at.
Some of the gunfights became a bit frustrating at times, as some of the difficulty spikes were a little dodgy, but I stuck with it and managed to get through on normal with relative ease. May start a hard run tomorrow..
It did bear more than a passing reseblance to a certain film though:
Spoiler:ShowIndiana Jones and the Last Crusade anyone? That Caravan chapter espeically
Half expecting to do battle with a tank. Still, it's one of my favourite films, so no problem with a homage on my end.
Makes me wonder whether action-based Indiana Jones games could actually pull off?

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition = 9/10
SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT
The game is totally awesome. The only complaint I have is about the beginning, because for me the game doesn't really start until you're outside and killing things. Also, I played the PC version through steam, which required a lot of patience when starting up because Microsoft Live took it's sweet time loading my saves...
Also, there were a few really annoying bugs throughout, like some enemies that kept fidgeting in one spot at the speed of light, which meant that you could never hit them, not even in the targeting mode. That aside, I enjoyed this game very much. -
Re: Last game you finished + rating
Assassins Creed Revelations. - 6/10
Game is alot shorter than it's predecessors, still as fun to stealth about Turkey but missions leas challenging and more predictable, twist not a twist, written to be a series finisher and nothing else, hugely disappointing.
Still, I'm too big a fan of Ezio to not play it. -

LA Noire: 5/10
It was nice to see a developer genuinely innovate and make something new. Very refreshing. Sadly, the entire game ended up incredibly formulaic. It's certainly an interesting game mechanism but it's one that suffers from the inherent problems of trying to bring old era 'Nancy Drew' style gaming into the 21st Century. It's all very flashy and the graphics look gorgeous enough, but cut it down to size and it's essentially a game that could have been set up by your parents using a pen and paper and 'clues' lying around the house. It's just multiple choice questioning, with everything simply boiling down to "Truth, Doubt or Lie". In the end, it held my interest well enough using the gimmick, but it was woefully short, the story was sup-par and incredibly formulaic.
EDIT: Oh and needless to say, aimlessly wandering a crime single looking to hear a 'chime' by chance simply to find clues was mind numbingly tedious. It usually took a good 15 minutes to find every clue, and this needs to be done for every - single - scene.

Infamous 8/10
I finally got some time to play this and oh my what a game, incredible story action and art. Only real Issues I had was how Bland the city felt compared to say GTA, but even then it was good enough. I like the Good Evil mechanism, and the graphics are modest. The voice acting and atmosphere really pull this game up. -

Game: Plants vs Zombies
Platform: Mac, Ipad, Iphone
Rating: 9/10
It's a well thought out arcade tower defense style game with a good story mode and fantastic mini games, the graphics are nothing spectacular however all the animations are smooth and i never noticed a glitch. It is highly addictive and a great game to play when you have a bit of time to kill, the story is hella funny with a large number of quirky zombies/neighbors who are bound to give you a few laughs. Would recommend playing it on a Mac as there is slightly more content although it is still fantastic on an Ipad (not played the Iphone version) but yeh overall it is a fantastic way to kill time, has some funny parts, lots of plants and zombies which require a bit of thinking and provides numerous possibilities for different defense tactics, smooth animations, cheap and it seems to be updated every so often with a bit more content.
My only negatives are that i can imagine it getting a bit repetitive after a while (could use a few more types of Zombie), some plants seem a bit underpowered and the graphics could be improved.Last edited by Darth Stewie; 02-07-2012 at 02:39. -
Re: Last game you finished + ratingI bought uncharted 3 last weekend and completed it on hard. Then re-did the first 2 games. They really are amazing games. It feels like you are in a film actually doing all of these crazy stunts. The caravan chapter was just insane to play!! The cruise ship level was pretty good as well. I do think it is starting to get repetitive in terms of the game play- similar to the feeling I get with assassins creed. It gets tedious after a while having to jump from wall to wall grabbing a ledge. I think the gun play needs to improve a lot.(Original post by pinkpenguin)

Playing Red Dead Redemption now and its hard to get used to a character that can barely jump 4 feet and grab ledges lol. Coincidentally my next game was going to be MGS2 as well! I don't know why but uncharted really made me reminisce about that game. -

F.E.A.R
8/10
A fun, atmospheric first person shooter. Quite tence in parts, especially near the end. One problem I found is that you can listen to answer machine messages left throughout the game and I found that sometimes that these were quite hard to hear. Overall though a good game.
