Things to do OTHER than clubbing?
I am absolutely dreading fresher's week, I hate club music with a passion, and no doubt everyone will want to go to nightclubs. Having grown up with a brother obsessed with dance music, I literally despise all forms of it. I know this sounds so uneducated and moronic but what other sorts of things to people do during fresher's week, you know, for people who don't enjoy club music? I'm rather worried I'll end up [B]having[B]to go because there'll be nothing else to do!

I hope to be attending Winchester and study Creative Writing btw!

    Pubbing?
I guess, yeah! I don't know in honesty, not sure if I'd find that really awkward or not. I'm just a failure of a human being you see.

No other way to make friends as easy as clubbing, try drinking? Then everything sounds class

I did go to a club the other night, but it was more of a 'party' thing, our mate hired the room out for her birthday and invited a load of people. I got VERY drunk and danced around and had a good laugh, but I think I'd despise the amount of people in standard nightclubs.

Do you have a Freshers' Week timetable/programme yet?

In Notts we offer plenty of non-alcoholic events, especially in the past few years.

We have day trips to Alton Towers/Cadbury World, pub quizzing, Binglo, Freshers' Fair for 3 days, sports, city/campus tours, film screenings, hypnotists and stacks more.

Find out from Winchester if they do the same

I think you'll just chill out when you get there.

Especially when you're with some new people you've met.

    Obviously you enjoy it.

    Hello

Are you at Nottingham or Nottingham Trent? I'm starting at Nottingham this year (grades providing) and am really worried because I've just found out I've got to be teetotal for the rest of my life (health related). Do you find that not drinking has a big affect on the people you hang out with and the stuff that you do?

Don't worry. While freshers at most universities does seem to be a university-wide drinking game with special prizes going to those who have the most regrettable sexual experiences and spew the weirdest coloured vomit, there's plenty of stuff to do for non-drinkers, too. I did go clubbing most nights, but I also wanted to get to know people in a more relaxed atmosphere so me and some guys I knew used to have game nights in our flat, go out to the pub, have meals, etc. Plus, if you sign up for societies you'll have plenty of non alcohol-related stuff to do for the whole time you're there.

I hope everything goes well for you.

There should be a few society introduction events.........you could also try to create a course event for a dinner out so people can get to know one another better.

    This.

I can seriously see myself staying indoors programming/watching Trailer Park Boys during Fresher's Week because the 'Student-Life Scene' isn't really my scene (Now I sound like some indie kid).
I personally don't drink and don't enjoy the idea of hanging out in a badly lit/ventillated room full of people off their heads and listening to stuff I don't really like.

I'm just hoping the 'hype' dies down after Fresher's.

I assume so, but it depends on your flatmates as well.

You say 'non alcoholic', it's not drinking I have an issue with! Love getting drunk ahaha. But thank you, hoping there will be stuff like that here

Hmm, I don't mind drinking at all, it's always a good, if not embarrassing, laugh, not that I remember that much.

I'd happily have nights in with flat mates drinking and that, just having a laugh and getting to know each other, just trying to avoid the club scene for as long as I can ahaha thank you!

Yeah I know what you mean, and unless you have weird flatmates then they'll definitely spend plenty of nights in the flat instead of going out. Clubbing can be expensive, after all.
