Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicants
Well I've got a btec level 3 which means I can go straight onto a BA But I've heard they still prefere a foundation as well As a btec so I'm unsure what to do you see I'm also considered a 'mature student' as Il be 21 when I go uni I think I'm going to apply for both a foundation and a BA with foundations you can also do an extra yr and that turns it into an equivalent of a BA x

Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicantsi think you're a little confused - there are two different kinds of art foundations, diplomas and degrees. diplomas are one year long, and afterwards you go on to doing a full three year BA. the degrees are two years, then you can top it up by going straight into 3rd year BA. you don't get student loans with the foundation diploma as it's further education rather than higher, but since you're over 18 you'd have to pay tuition fees. they're not as expensive as degrees though!(Original post by Rubydoo)

Lol I think I have got confused. Thanks for correcting me you've saved me from drama haha I'm still getting my head around all this degree stuff haha I should think I wouldn't need a foundation though but I've heard they prefer it iv non stopped researching BA degrees I'm swaying between csm and westminster how about yourself what plans do you have
-
Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicantscsm will certainly expect you to have a foundation, not sure about westminster! but you can always just apply to them anyway along with a foundation course in case you don't get in. i'm doing the foundation at camberwell (starting in a few weeks!) and will be applying for illustration BA there(Original post by Rubydoo)

i would say to include variety, be selective, and choose pieces that show YOUR personality - this way you'll stand out!
you'll be far from the oldest one, people won't even be able to notice the (tiny!) age difference haha

(oldie) . My understanding is they only accept btec students with art foundation aswell at csm which is ok for me as i wanted to do it anyway! foundation year and foundation degrees are different but dont worry i made the same mistake earlier on! hope to see you there!!
btw out of interest what grades did you get at BTEC? -
Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicants
Yayyy! I'm not the only oldie.
. And ah sh*t how did you find this.out? Il have to call the college how much are foundation years? I really thought btec meant you didn't need tooo allthough I hope they go on portfolio I got D D D you? Are you applying for fashion womenswear??
-
Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicantsI got D*D*D and im going in for womenswear. I've spoken to tutor's and heard about people with excelent portfolios being rejected from csm for not having art foundation which sucks a bit. I think its just a bit risky. I've got no idea how much art foundation costs which is a bit worrying but I'm a bit skint so hopefully ill get some support from the college fingers crossed!!(Original post by Rubydoo)

Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicants
Ahh well done
I've just spoken to my friend he said he called up askin the same thing and they said you only need a art foundation if you have just done a level or like the IB they said btec is fine I really think it depends on you more than the grades so ur apply for uni in September and save yourself some money on a foundation I mean there's no harm trying without one and then if your unsuccessful just do a foundation we have the added bonus of been mature students my tutor said that they will rely more on the interview and portfolio than anything else try ringing the.college fpr yourself save yourself a few hundred.on a foundation

Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicants
I'm doing the art foundation in sept so im still applying for 2013, no worries there.
well done yourself i thought i was going to get DMM tbf. Got a bit of a shock! Problem is I'm still finding it hard to convince myself that I can get in csm lol! I know the art foundation will help build up my portfolio and stuff. I'm coming from a pretty tecnical background so improving my drawing skills couldn't hurt either.

Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicantsI'd be lieing if I Said I hadn't had doubts too!! But if we think like that we won't get far will we hun(Original post by LF2)

Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicantshey! i got into csm without an art foundation. my case is a bit different though, as i'm not from the uk. all i am saying is that if you have a really strong portfolio, then they'll accept you even if you don't have a foundation diploma.(Original post by LF2)

Re: University of the Arts London 2013 applicantsThanks for the moral support! I had to compile some sort of portfolio for my grade so I've got illustrations, a CAD range board and photos of finished garments (all from design Projects) followed by textiles stuff then life drawing then surface pattern ending with my final piece for surface pattern. I'm pretty sweet with a computer but im looking to do more traditional drawing/making my sketchbooks look a bit better. It's A1 so ill probably scale it down and remount it. How's yours looking?(Original post by Rubydoo)

this was my portfolio to the architectural association, the csm one was a bit smaller. i've received an unconditional offer there (and a conditional one at cambridge too), but i didn't get a scholarship, so i'll be going to csm.Last edited by msas1; 01-08-2012 at 00:42. -
