Re: Why are we still bothering? No it isnt- nobody was treated differently. The children acted differently due to their external influences, people/relatives they used to associate with.(Original post by DeadGirlsDance)
That's because the "early developers" are able to go to the Grammar schools because they passed their 11+ test. They're probably treated differently there because of their family backgrounds and labelled accordingly, which may explain why they start dropping out and acting differently to the others. -
Re: Why are we still bothering? Finally. Someone who doesn't expect their bum to be wiped for them. This is the attitude to have,.(Original post by xoxAngel_Kxox)
What can we do other than "bother"? Sit in the house all day and think about how sad and pathetic our lives are? I'd much prefer to get out there, have fun with my friends as much as I can, get as much education as I possibly can to better myself, and if I get my dream job along the way then that's great. But if I don't at least I had a good time trying!
Yes, a degree isn't as much of an advantage as it used to be, but you're LUCKY to live in a country where education to such a high level is possible. One thing I always think about people who post threads like this is that life can't be that rubbish when we're sat in a warm house with an internet connection. Throughout history the world has gone through high points and low points, and while right now things might not be too great, I'm sure that things will change eventually. Although I also stand by the thought that you shouldn't WAIT for a change, you should BE the change. -
What type of benefits do you think the government should get rid off? And those benefits are there, so if anyone comes into hardship they have something to fall back on. Without a benefit system, wouldn't it encourage more crime and more homeless people?(Original post by pr0view)
"they're doing work that real "British" people don't want to do" Only because the govt gives people dole and shelter to do nothing, if we got rid of a lot of benefits we wouldn't need to import immigrants and the controversial ideas and customs they bring with them. Plus we would also cut a big chunk of the deficit. The only reason the govt loves immigrants is because its in bed with big corporations who profit off them. Same reason as why they **** on us via banks.
People assume that the government literally hands out thousands of pounds each month, to each family that is on benefits. When really it's not the case.
It's only when you have a lot of children, that you can really "enjoy" living off benefits. -
Re: Why are we still bothering? Most benefits should be scrapped, its peoples own responsibility to look after themselves not the governments. Benefits should only be handed to those who are terminally ill, disabled or can't actually look after themselves for some other reason.(Original post by alis-volatpropriis)

There never used to be benefits on the scale there is today and the majority of the time people have got by, sometimes life isn't great but we can't just keep borrowing and printing money and hoping the problem will go away. The only time i believe the government should intervene is in individual cases when people can't work or during times of turmoil such as the Great Depression in which people will die because they cannot get any work.
I live in a housing estate and many of my neighbours do not work and never have done and i have lived here 15 years. The government are too soft. -
Re: Why are we still bothering? He'd get his wife to defend his ass and win.(Original post by perfectsymbology)
Maybe it's time someone sued Tony Blair for lying to young people about the prospects of having a degree over those not having one. -
Re: Why are we still bothering? It annoys me when the people who have reaped all the rewards from a booming economy harp on about how hard they had it. Irritating as hell. I'd love to buy a house for £20k and see it quadruple in value....can you see that happening for us? Eugh. I think many of people from our generation would be lucky to even get on the property ladder(Original post by madders94)
I've realized now that this post seems very depressing and I'm sorry, I never meant for it too
I appreciate everything I've got and know that I'm lucky compared to many people in third world countries, but it just gets you down sometimes when you realize that it tends to be the people from older generations who say "the kids of today are going nowhere", like it's our fault that the government has been unable to control its spending, and it's the whole... yes, we're in deep trouble, but we're expected to get out of this alone and it's going to be hard when things look set to get worse. Still, I'm going to try and enjoy the next three years at uni as well as enjoying what I learn and hopefully learning some skills that will make me more employable, because we never know what might have happened in three/five/ten years time
Anyway, the only thing you can do it TRY! If you don't then there is less chance of you getting to where you want to be. When I started my PGCE in Sept all I heard about was how there were no jobs and what was the point of even doing it? And now I've got a job for September and I couldn't be happier, if I hadn't bothered then I wouldn't be where I am now. You've just got to work hard, maximise all opportunities and be proactive with your time, if you want a decent job at the end of it then university isn't the party it used to be! -
Re: Why are we still bothering? That is, unless everything collapses of course!(Original post by carnationlilyrose)
Just sit it out. Things go in cycles. It was like this when I graduated in the early 1980s. It'll be like this again in the future, no doubt, but in between things have been better. It's really hard to have perspective when you're young and in the middle of it, but things really do change. Just don't give up. Keep on doing the best you can. Whatever the world throws at you, you'll be better off than those who don't do that. -
Re: Why are we still bothering?Which it won't. Even after the Great Depression, things got better again. Everything goes in cycles.(Original post by ufo2012)
That is, unless everything collapses of course! -
Re: Why are we still bothering? How is cancer and parents throwing their children out funny?(Original post by flown_muse)
LOLZ. My parents divorced when I was 6, so I only had my mum. She had breast cancer which progressed to lungs, bones and multiple brain tumours. She chucked me out about 5 months before she died. Her mental state was not her own.
Troll. -
Re: Why are we still bothering?Strange thinking... for things to get better they first have to be not as good.(Original post by carnationlilyrose)
Which it won't. Even after the Great Depression, things got better again. Everything goes in cycles.
So it still stands to reason, everything could still collapse. -
Re: Why are we still bothering?right - just remember that cancer and family conflict can hurt some people so lets not totally make light of it...(Original post by flown_muse)
I'm not a troll.
I was laughing at his immediate reaction and also at the post that he then deleted after I commented... -
Re: Why are we still bothering?Okay, maybe I should have started a new paragraph so people will understand:(Original post by Muscovite)
right - just remember that cancer and family conflict can hurt some people so lets not totally make light of it...
LOLZ - as in haha that guy has made himself look stupid with his comments
Rest of comment - this is why his comments are silly, he makes assumptions without knowing the situation.
I will make sure to paragraph properly in the future.
