Re: Acne, nothing will get rid of itTry Duac Gel it works miracles for mild acne spots.(Original post by physicshelpme)
Ok so basically I've had mild/moderate acne for around 3 years (I'm 16) and I have no idea what I can do to stop it. I only drink water (and sometimes milk), I eat a lot of fruit and I exercise regularly. I also take antibiotics that the doctor prescribed and wash my face every morning and night. I seem to do everything that the internet tells me to do but it just won't go! Does anyone have any suggestions I can do? Thank you! -
Re: Acne, nothing will get rid of it
Came across this a few weeks back and tried it. Worked an absolute charm and its virtually no cost at all seeing as it's a ingredient most people will have in their kitchens!

Re: Acne, nothing will get rid of it
its your diet.
many will say cut out dairy/fatty and thats probably a good idea but the main cause is SUGAR. this includes that **** ton of fruit youre eating. cut it out. and anything processed. no white bread, no white rice, no pasta, no margarine, no 'low calorie alternatives' for whatever, its all processed and sugary. also no potatoes as they spike your blood sugar which messes with your hormones which causes acne. which kills me but it works. its sugar/carbs. go on a low GI diet and stay on it. introduce a small amount of certain things after 3 months or so, not all at once, so you can see what, if anything, triggers you. keep a food diary. stay away from too much salt. get a lot of protein. fat is not bad for you esp with protein. when you eat carbs, eat it with protein or fat. stay away from caffeine and any carbonated crap. and fruit juice because its just sugar water with a bit of fibre and vitamins in it. if youre going to eat fruit eata proper piece of fruit, not fruit juice. i know a lot of people bang on about green tea for acne but really its too acidic and you need to do what youd do for anything else in your diet and introduce it and trial it over a few months to see how it works for you. dont assume anything about any food until youve looked it up. this works for seborrheic dermatitis and some types of eczema. many people think they get eczema on their face after taking a round of antibiotics, particularly for acne, when its actually seborrheic dermatitis and antibiotics wont get rid of it. many skin problems are down to hormone reactions to food, and sometimes food allergies. i dont mean all that hippy **** about getting your hair tested for evil pesticides i mean normal hormone reactions that differ from person to person. you cant rely on medicine or doctors, you need to keep records and work at it yourself. -

Wouldn't it just be easier to scrape off the acne with a rusty nail and a string? You might as well have asked him to just starve it out of his diet

Re: Acne, nothing will get rid of it
basically a low gi diet like body builders but without all the stuff they take to work out/build muscle.
also dont strip your face of oil. dont use a soap cleanser or one wtih alcohol as a main ingredient. use a foaming cleanser. use a water based moisturiser. stay away from petroleum based crap because it just sits on the surface of your skin and it cant absorb it so produces more oil. get some jojoba oil and massage it into your face with (clean) fingertips. you need a moisturiser especially if youre going to put a bunch of crap on your skin to dry it out, as i suspect you might, like benzoyl peroxide, which is not the answer long term. it will leave your skin parched and basically burned. that is what will scar your skin as much as any acne. if you must use it, only on serious cysts, not on annoying small whiteheads or whatever and *use sunscreen* on top of it. b.p. WILL leave you with thinner, damaged skin in the long term if you keep using it and it will not control moderate/severe acne anyway, only antibiotics (sometimes and not indefinitely)/roaccutane/diet will.
i never tried roaccutane, had several medication clashes whcih meant no, but im glad i didnt now, id have never looked into diet otherwise. -
Re: Acne, nothing will get rid of it
lol. that serious **** is only for a few months. then you can reintroduce stuff.
i actually found a vast improvement in my skin when switched to a low gi diet and looked into it and the blood sugar thing all added up.
my cousin did the ketogenic diet for epilepsy and though it didnt completely rid him of epilepsy it cured his acne which had been up to that point absolutely horrific. he keeps a low gi diet for it now, although im not sure of the side effects of his medication. im also epileptic and the medication ive previously taken has made acne worse. STRESS is also a big factor because it messes with your hormones. -
Re: Acne, nothing will get rid of itNo, it isn't. It's ethanol.(Original post by daydreamnation)
also i always forget this because it doesnt affect me as i cant drink anyway but obviously you need to cut out alcohol if youre a drinker. its pure sugar.

Re: Acne, nothing will get rid of it
Go see the doctor! He prescribed me some "co-trimoxazole", works like a charm. Also make sure to not only take the tablets, but ask the doctor if he can give you any special cream to apply to the affected areas.
The most important thing is, as cliche as it sounds, to get enough sleep, drink enough water and eat enough fruit. Also try going out to places with less air pollution! I find better air always works for me
