Does anyone else have instant prejudice against Muslims for no good reason?
I don't like to admit it, but when I see somebody who is obviously Muslim, I get a bit scared and take a dislike to them. If I see Muslim women in burkas in public or a lot of Muslims in an area I walk through which is all Muslim, I get uneasy. I don't know why, as I know that the vast majority of them are nice, normal people. My heart jumped last week when about 20 Muslim women all wearing burkas streamed out of a train at St Pancras Station, and I felt a bit scared until they all left.

I think I react like this because my experience with Muslim students at school has been horrific (think they're hard, think the world owes them something due to being Muslim or Asian, homophobic, violent etc), and I can't get over this for other Muslims. When I see somebody who looks obviously Muslim I have an instant prejudice against them because I think they'll be like the Muslims I know, as well as the majority of modern terrorist attacks in the UK coming from Muslims, which only heightens my instant feeling towards them.

    Do you feel like this?

To be fair I think that if you come from an area where you don't see Muslim people very often, it might come as a bit of a surprise - it did to me when I first went to London and I was really surprised by how many people wearing burqas etc that there were, and I think that when they've got the full-face veil it can be a bit intimidating, but to have an instant prejudice and fear of them is religious profiling which isn't really something to be proud of.

I only feel instant prejudice against burka/niqab wearers, since I assume they're wearing it because they believe I and all other men are too perverted and sex obseessed to see their face..

Brainwashed by the media. Simple. You're a victim lol

This is the equivalent of saying you fear every gay male you meet wants to bum you. It's a ridiculous view that is common (sorry for the crude language).

As a muslim who just wears a hijab, I can assure you that not every muslim is a terrorist so you shouldnt worry too much about it.

However due to the medias portrayal of Islam, even I get nervous when i go out because I think someone will attack me just for being muslim . The first time I went on the London tube , I was scared, thinking that every asian guy would suddenly appear with a bomb and I would die. Its ridiculous and i felt like a ****!

Dont blame yourself completely. Its papers like the Daily Mail who spew about the Islamic hate and turn peoples brains to mush.

I think we always judge people what they are wearing to some extent, and anyone who says otherwise is a bit of a liar.

I think liberal-secularists and very pious Muslims can superficially get along but deep down they have contempt for each other.

Hi, i am incredibly sorry about the experience you have had with other muslims. I myself am a muslim and have had exactly the same experience as yourself. A lot of the muslim youth is misguided and not acting upon the true islam.
I feel exactly the same way when i walk past the muslim youths. However i guess sometimes you just have to remember that not all muslims are the same, alot of them are exactly like yourself, making their own way in life.
Feel free to PM me if you need to talk.
    Peace be with you

If you are a Muslim I am going to assume you base your moral reasoning and understand of reality from divine bull****. Thus I instantly hold you in contempt unless given a reason to think otherwise.

The same can be said for all religous people though.

Even though I'm Muslim, not going to lie, I was scared of the proper full wearing bearded, etc guys when I was younger sometimes there face looks not very happy..........but my perception changed when I met some of them, it's just cos I don't know them at all, and are always very very nice, always willing to buy you some food,etc.........even I have a pretty indifferent facial expression, mostly cos i think a lot when I walk.

Plus you can't take those guys at your school seriously..................i was born here, from Bengali parents and Muslim, moment I realised about this "badman" culture on asians, eventhough they were Muslim....I knew I should stay away from them the instances I realised the kind of people they are which is their own so called "gangster" way of life, which involves going out with girls, drugs, even drinkings, which is sinning in Islam.
You find other Muslims who actually practice their faith properly and are nothing like them, cos they don't hang around them with them.....I hanged around with people of other faiths, etc who were good kids.
