Try The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe or My Swordhand is Singing By Marcus Sedgewick.

I second the Poe suggestion, and his other stories and poetry are fantastic.
The Road by Cormac McCarthy is pretty powerful. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after I finished it.
It by Stephen King. Although it did get too much for me, I haven't picked it up for months

House of Leaves - Mark Z Danielewski...that's quite creepy.

I love pretty much everything by Stephen King (and the books he wrote as Richard Bachman), although not all are horror!

And my mind has gone blank now, can't think of anything else

The Angel's Game and the Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It gives me shivers and I don't know why. It's not horror or anything but he's just a brilliant story teller and his characters mostly have a haunted past.

Depends on the horror you want really....

Anything by Brian Keene, Jack Ketchum, JF Gonzalez, but if you think IT is scary then maybe not

Brian Keene: Urban Gothic, The rising, Darkness on the edge of town

    JF: Clickers, Shapeshifter, The corporation

Jack Ketchum: Off season, Joyride, Sleep disorder

I found it quite hard to get into but I did like it in the end. I heard a lot of people say it was absolutely amazing so I think my expectations were too high, but it was still pretty good! Bit weird/different. I might re-read it actually, sometimes I like books more the second time round.

I started reading it one night but got a little creeped out because I was by myself, so I stopped reading it. Will definitely start it again soon, but I'll have to try and keep an open mind because I too have read reviews that it's totally amazing, I don't want to be let down or anything lol

I'm about 1/3 of the way through Dracula right now and loving it. I'm not sure if it fits into scary/horror yet though.

I just started reading some of HP Lovecraft's short stories and novellas. I've enjoyed what I've read so far. Chilling stuff.
