Below average school?!
If you have studied at a school which gets below the 58% national average of students achieving 5A*-C (including maths and English) will a university take this into account? (as my school was only 42% so well under the national average)

Re: Below average school?!
Some do. Manchester (?) have a list of flagged schools, and York University will take it into account too if it's below a certain percentage (last time I checked, the percentage was above your school's, so you're all right
) There are others, too. Have a look at different universities, as each have a different way of looking at this (and I believe some don't at all).

I was thinking of applying to Russell group uni's who normally have the higher entry requirements but didn't know if they would. But Manchester is part of the Russell group so hopefully others will. Would it be best contacting the uni's?(Original post by Ra Ra Ra)

Yeah that's what I thought! But say if they were asking for AAA and I got AAB I wondered whether anywhere would take this into consideration probably best to email the uni's! Anyway thanks(Original post by SpiggyTopes)
Surely if you meet the entry requirements but come from a bad school it's an advantage. It shows you will probably be better than those who get the same grades but come from a brilliant school, doesn't it?

Re: Below average school?!
This information is automatically flagged up by the information you put to identify your school on your Ucas form. Most universities will look at it. Some will actively reduce their offers if the average is significantly low. You can sometimes find this information on their website. You can also email admissions tutors and ask them what their policy is. I think 42% may not be low enough to trigger it, but you need to ask them directly. We on here can only speculate.
