New laptop needed, up to £500 budget.
Clearly the ones I found were awful, any links to decemnt ones would be great as I do not know much

What I want from the laptop is to be as fast as possible and to do multiple things with absolutely no slowdown at all. I would need (or if I can buy an adapter) a HDMi port as I have my laptop linked up to my tv a lot.
Any other questions then please ask

The second one isn't in stock.
Any gaming at all....or graphic intense use like major editing?
Whats the connector for your tv? -
Hdmi for the tv, don't think there is anything else, maybe dvi. Could check tomorrow(Original post by Iqbal007)

I won't be going anything graphically intense but I'd like it to be able to play full hd films.
The main thing I have is I want it to play FM with iTunes open and doing loads of other things with absolutely zero slowdown.
Told you I wasn't very good at looking fit them

I can't see if the first one has a hdmi port but I assume it has as the second one has and they look pretty much the same
Will they both be fine to run a hd film on a 42" and above tv?
Does the blu ray player actually add anything if I don't stick blu ray discs in?
Is it worth getting the windows 8 deal if I take the first one?

Re: New laptop needed, up to £500 budget.
Just bought this one a few days ago for uni (going to study comp. sci.). Powerful and reliable machine from Sony for £500 (same processors as the two Lenovo machines above - i5 2450):

I'd recommend buying from John Lewis because the 3 year warranty will come in handy. -

Intel® Core™ i5-2450M Dual Core Processor
15.6" HD Screen
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit
8GB RAM
500GB HDD
DVD Rewriter
Integrated Graphics
£440
And looking at pictures, it seems like the Lenovo does a hdmi port along with a vga one.
Yes they should, the intergrated graphics is for mainly multimedia purposes like that and the low end gaming.
Not really, but seeing as you want to use your HD tv I thought you'd like the option.
The website I linked to you as loads of other Lenovos under £500 with i5 with or without blu-ray if you want one.
I wouldn't be too sure -

Has that one got a hdmi port?
Yep, on the left: Power socket, Ethernet, VGA port, HDMI, 1 USB 2.0, Headphone/Mic.
Right: Optical drive, 3x USB 2.0 -
I'm looking to buy today, could you (or someone else) please let me know if there is anything better than this available. Thanks!(Original post by Iqbal007)

Would the extra money be worth double the amount of ram as slowdown pisses me off more than anything on a computer.(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: New laptop needed, up to £500 budget.well it depends on what you do, if its quite basic things, you need just 4gb, even loads of tabs and so on will handle that.(Original post by Mess.)

If your going to do serious gaming, intensive editing or programming than 4gb+ is important. -

You are like my resident IT man!
Tbh I'm happy to go for the bigger RAM as I just don't want any slowdown at all whatever the hell I am doing and I have the budget to go higher. So essentially whatever is the best laptop in the budget would be exactly what I would go for.
Edit: What do you think of these? http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=2061117 -
Re: New laptop needed, up to £500 budget.im not sure, because its cheaper to buy the extra 4gb ram separately and stick it in, if they've used one socket only so 1 x 4gb instead of 2 x 2gb.(Original post by Mess.)
Thanks again

To be fair lenovo their is the best for quality...............saw a reliability test on laptop makers, Dell comes around the bottom and Acer right at the bottom, hence the good price.
If you want an i7, it would be overkill unless your doing serious stuff.
By the way, with a laptop you got to remember to clean it regularly, every 6-12 months and clean out the dust, it can really help, even applying a better thermal paste. Did this to my sisters laptop after 3 years looool lots of dust, now a lot quieter and faster. -

How much would buying the 4GB seperate actually save? As for the sake of faffing about I'd probably just pay the extra to save me likely breaking the machine
Edit: Any good ideas of a laptop cooling 'tray' or whatever they are called that would fit the Lenovo?
