Okay, I think I'm going by myself at the moment but I think it's good to see what your 'competition' is like?!
I hope it will be fun meeting new people?!

Medlink doesn't make up for lack of decent work experience btw. -
I know it doesn't make up for it but hopefully I will gain at least one thing from it.(Original post by Democracy)

Re: MedLink 2012 InformationI can safely say that the only thing I learned from Medlink was that the med school in Grenada is ridiculously desperate for students. Really, save your money!(Original post by McMedic)

Re: MedLink 2012 Information
Agree. Save your money!!
I had fun. I met lovely people
But that's not worth the money you spend
I'm not sure whether I regret going or not. It gave me motivation to get through the schoolwork and revision for AS. But it didn't teach me anything new. I really regret buying that stupid CD thing. The only thing it taught me, was that I needed to be way more careful about letting people sell me things in the future. Which is a valuable life lesson, granted, but that doesn't help you get into medical school
I honestly think it's basically a con. I wish I had found this forum sooner, probably would have been enlightened! -
Re: MedLink 2012 Information
I'd agree that Medlink charged way too much money for the information they provide considering you can gain that just from doing research. However I found the experience fun because I went with a lot of friends and it does give you an insight into what its like to be staying at halls when you eventually go to university

Just if anyone had any more comments.
I've now decided its not worth the money, although I might of enjoyed it I'm guessing I would of grown to regret it like many of you guys!
Thanks for the advice and now I think I'm making the right decision! TSR is so helpful for application information anyway!
Thanks!

not yours, people who are going, I mean.
Turn up on the day and you can walk right into their horribly organised schedule for nothing.Last edited by Hood; 23-08-2012 at 18:54. -

Is medlink good for UCAS applications or not? -
Re: MedLink 2012 InformationI went to medisix!(Original post by McMedic)
Hi
I'm just about to start college and I've heard about MedLink. I was wondering if any of you guys ahve previously been on it and could tell me more about it and how you found it? Or if any of you are thinking of doing it this year?
Thanks! X
It was fun but it won't help your medical school application. TSR was more informative and cheaper!
Go if you can, but if you can't, DON'T. The only thing I got out of it was probably my paper which got published, which, again, can be done independently as a science project. Again, for free. -
Re: MedLink 2012 InformationThis is honestly possible. If you really wanted to go OP then you could just turn up and walk in to any of the seminars, nobody would even notice, you just wouldn't have a place to sleep for the night.(Original post by Hood)

I went last year, met some cool people and made some friends, but it's not that great. It's just a massive advertising campaign for extras, where they desperately try to rinse as many terrified students as possible. As others have said, the only thing I gained from it was really seeing how many people are applying for medicine and that opened my eyes a bit, but judging by a lot of the people that I saw, most the 'competition' have probably dropped out of college and become alcoholics. -

Is medlink good for UCAS applications or not?
Had to pick up on this. To say it's not good for UCAS applications is a lie most people will try swing here. Although I'm evidently very critical of it, looking at my post above, it does show that you've really pulled out every stop (provided you have good work experience of course) in researching medicine. It's of course not a significant advantage, and probably not worth paying for, but if you've attended definitely mention it in your PS.(Original post by Witty Username)

Re: MedLink 2012 InformationI'm not sure it does- as you yourself have mentioned, your work experience is far more crucial, and it would truly show that you'd pulled out all stops if you'd gone about organising a lot of it independently. All medlink shows is that you have £300 (I don't actually know how much it costs these days, so this is just a guess) to spare.(Original post by FailedMyExams)
