How accurate would the site census data be on North Korea?

Korea, North are on there and I decided to do a case study on them for A2 Biology but I find it surprising how they could have data on them especially after how closed off they are. It makes me think that the data was perhaps made up my Kim Jong Il while he was alive to make North Korea seem stable as the birth rates and death rates are pretty balanced and it seems to be a stable population.

They released official information regarding their demographics in 1989, anything after that is just projections.

They may have lied as the information they provided showed a much lower male to female ratio than anyone expected which may have been an attempt to cause doubt over the size of their army.

What Darth Stewie said really, i'd be somewhat sceptical of any of the data given the secrecy of the state and their well known fondness of lying to the internaitonal community

About as accurate as what an average person would be if they tried to hit a dish sized target with a bow and arrow for the first time while blindfolded.

Charities and other aid groups that have or have had access to the country can assist in making projections. But much is obviously down to guess work.

This youtube video is about an aid group trying to get access
