Grades needed for a master at a top uni?
What grades in the bachelor are usually needed to enter a top uni for masters?

Is it only a 2.1 or is 2.2 possible to have?

    Appreciate fast and effective answers,
    thanks

The really isn't much point in continuing any study if you get a 2:2, in the sense that without extenuating circumstances, the passion for the subject required to complete a masters would be enough to encourage anyone to get a 2:1.

I have yet to hear of anyone getting into a 'top' uni's masters programme on anything less than a 2:1 unless they have extenuating circumstances but i guess it depends what you mean by top as peoples views seem to differ somewhat

At least a 2.1, unless you have significant relevant work experience to support your application to a Masters course that will compensate for a lower mark (this depends on the Uni though!).

It will depend on how many places they have to fill and how popular the courses in question actually are. Even 'top' universities aren't oversubscribed for all of their masters' courses, so if your 2.2 is borderline and your application is otherwise strong you might still be lucky (though it'll be safer to email the department before you apply, because obviously you don't want to waste time on an application that's going to be thrown out straight away).
You'd almost certainly have to self-fund, though.

A 2.1 is generally seen as a minimum, although I know Oxbridge students with 2.2s who've gone on to masters at redbricks and the like.

This, though there are also courses where the "official" minimum is a 2:1 but in practice most or all students with offers have a first. OP, if you gave more info about what subject and what unis you are interested in you may get more informative answers.

I really doubt you'll get into a top uni with a 2.2 as already stated the max minimum is a 2.1, if that.

Unfortunately you´ll find that a 2:1 or above is required in most, if not all top universities. If you want to study a postgraduate course consider applying to universities further down the league tables.
