Currently studying undergrad journalism - bad move?
Hey guys, I´m writing from Sydney. This forum seems cool btw.
Sorry for my long thread!
So this is my situation (if everything goes according to plan):
I´m doing a bachelor of journalism and international studies (South America) as well as a 6months exchange in the US. My submajor is Transnational studies (a bit of international relations and political science, human rights etc) - not 100% sure really. I´m on my first year - I have 4 years left.
After 5 years I will have:
Extensive experience in Europe (I´m Norwegian), South Africa (intership), South America and the US.
The best and most hands on bachelor of journalism available in Australia.
A submajor in transational studies
3 languages: Norwegian, English and Spanish.
This is my problem/question:
I want to do international journalism on a high level. All my favorite journalists have degrees in political science, history, international relations or law etc.
Now I´m basically terrified of ending up writing about lame stuff - not international affairs and humanitarian issues.
So I´m concidering my options for masters (on top of a double bachelor) in politcal science, history and similar fields. But somehow, I feel I´m doing things in the wring order, the pro´s study this field for years!
The journo degree is great for international and practical experice (great for internships), but what about theory? Is a master enough, or should I ditch my journo course and get on a undergrad course in political science etc?
ALL answers are mostly appreciated!
