Re: Shorty's Summer Transformation
Motivation is pretty non-existent. Every day I've gone through a period of a couple of hours where I feel like I could fall asleep standing up, which is really not helping. I definitely need more of a routine to try to fix this but I guess it gets hard when work patterns suddenly change and spontaneous chores are thrown into your days.
I'm going to try my old lively music and putting joggers etc on, see if I can motivate myself for the very late Week 1, Day 2 of the push up challenge. I've also been asked to take the dog out, and rather than thinking 'yeah I'll take the football out for a kick about' I'm just feeling really not up for it. Not cool.
I thought being just a couple of weeks away from my holiday would motivate me, but it actually just feels as though it's creeping up on me without warning. Already eaten **** today because I didn't manage to prepare lunch for work, nor did I manage to get up on time - woke up half an hour after I was supposed to be there and it takes half an hour to get there, thank god it's school holidays.
Moan over, hopefully that's out of my system now.
Edit to add:
Today's Push Up Challenge - 10, 12, 8, 8, 17(sticking to maxing on last set despite app saying to do 12 or whatever)Last edited by shorty.loves.angels; 16-07-2012 at 18:47. Reason: addition -
Re: Shorty's Summer TransformationCheers hun, I really need to be in this mindset right now rather than feeling like I've gone too far backwards to recover.(Original post by Lantana)
Just pick yourself back up and start again. I've had a rubbish week for diet and exercise because it's exam week, but we're allowed to have blips now and again!
As it is, I'm feeling much better today. Maybe it was yesterday's solitude that made me a bit lifeless, I'm saying this because I felt so much better after talking to a couple of friends (despite it being 1am) and even after not a great deal of sleep I still feel much better today.
Plan for the day:
-Stay motivated- I have plenty to do so I'm going to write a schedule of some sort as I know this will keep my motivation up.
-Eat well or don't eat at all- Rather than succumb to the 'oh I've not made lunch for work, I'll have to grab a sausage sandwich (
) on the way in' and then spending the rest of the day eating whatever because I've 'already spoiled my diet today', I find I stick at it much better if I just avoid eating crap.
-Think of some fun activity/ies- Because once I sit down this evening I won't want to get up again. Did push ups yesterday so going to try out pull ups again today. If it's dry I'll take it as a sign to get the bar out. If it's rainy I'll do indoor resistance/ HIIT or something. Might even add in a bike ride/ dog walk/ kick about/ throw some hoops, depending on what is possible. -
Re: Shorty's Summer Transformation
Half a Pull Up
Ok so doesn't sound much, but I've never managed to move from a dead hang and today I did, and it wasn't just a flinch, I actually shifted my body upwards. Not sure how stupid this sounds, but it felt like my back (so, lat. dorsi?) was actually engaging at the right time and assisting the work in the arms. Anyway enough bull****, that's progress and I'm very happy to see it.
On a less positive note, I felt like taking a nap today at about 5pm. Only it turned out that I didn't wake up until 7.40pm :s I didn't feel any better for it either hmm. But I guess it's a good thing that I still pulled myself outside and managed quite a few half pull ups over time (as well as a few part chin ups - might as well succeed a little at both), plus I did that thing where you hang from your legs at do 'sit ups'. They were ok, did 10, but had too much swing due to panicking that I'd fall off. Will try to do them better next time.
Now that I am actually up and doing - despite still feeling that I could fall asleep any second - I'm gona take the dog out, take the football and do some sprints. Then come home and maybe have some cooked tuna steaks to finish the day off well.
This was totally a long post but it is so worth hanging onto things when you feel like you've made progress. Now just to catch up withand her push up PB(Original post by Becca)

Re: Shorty's Summer TransformationVery true! Plans are totally underestimated.(Original post by Lantana)
Yay, I'm glad you've made some progress! Sometimes all you need is a plan to help on the way
Today my eating habits have been very good. Well done me.
Push ups
11, 15, 9, 9, 21
21!! Max just shot up... weird but felt very, very good! On the initial test U began tiring after about 12. Today, even after the forst 4 sets I felt that 14 was pretty easy. The last 2 were truly squeezed out, went for the 22nd but I couldn't hold the shape. Hips sagged, then I couldn't even get halfway back up. But 21 is way better than I expected, given that the first set of 9 hurt.
Off to see Channing Tatum now

Re: Shorty's Summer Transformation
'Week 2, Day 1' of Push Ups: 14, 14, 10, 10, 18(max)
This was really hard
The first 14 were tiring then on every other set the 6 rep almost collapsed, I had to tighten up so much to press the last ones out. On the last set (max) I had to briefly stop and breathe after the 6th and 9th rep, then on the 14th I weakened and had to really pull myself together (15 was minimum) but as I managed a very difficult 15th rep I thought I might as well see how many more like this I could get. Tried 19 but arms gave way. Waah. Maybe having the 2 day break before starting the next 'week' is a good idea - to be honest, being as it's Friday, I forgot that I was starting a new 'week'. Next time I think I'll make the most of those 2 days. Slightly disappointed as those 21 the other day felt good. Ah well, long way to go yet
Niece came over yesterday so a lot of cakes were made. Today hasn't been brill foodwise but not appalling either... a few bread/ cake bits and a fair bit of fruit. Will wait a bit until dinner and then have something... lean.Last edited by shorty.loves.angels; 20-07-2012 at 17:59. -
Re: Shorty's Summer Transformation
Back from holiday booooo. Was very lovely but I did very little in terms of exerecise - not surprising. Actually, we were staying at the top of a hill so we did a lot of uphill walking and that totally counts towards something

Going to get back into good eating habits, though they have been pretty normal over the last 10 days - mostly meat and salad - and then start press ups again AND it's back to gymnastics this Friday
Just had a carvery, teehee. -
Re: Shorty's Summer Transformation
Woo very happy after that.
Was due to start Week 2, Day 2 of push up challenge, but after about 10 days off decided that achieving the set reps would be unlikely, so decided to do as much as possible, and match it to whichever week was closest and carry on from there.
Managed the actual reps for Week 2, Day 2
Obviously the rest will have helped, but I'm not gona pretend like it was easy; I'm a trembling, sweaty, aching bundle right now.
14, 16, 12, 12, 21(max)
First 3 sets were just tiring, 4th lot was difficult and had two very short pauses for breath in last set but managed 21 (target was 17) - despite trying for a 22nd! Happy
Hoping I also manage Day 3, makes me want to keep trying and working on stuff.
Oo I can also work on pull ups again before gymnastics, would very likely help bar work.Last edited by shorty.loves.angels; 07-08-2012 at 18:55. -
