Yes! Pull out all the stops for university, get As at A Level, do lots of work experience and extra curricular, read around your subject and prepare a unique and intellectual personal statement and I can probably guarantee a university place.

What do you mean A/B or C/B.. which one is it? You dont do many GCSEs do you? Unless your thinking about applying to the top 5 unis then A levels are the fundamental thing to worry about.

The person is obviously waiting for their GCSE results and predicting what they'll get.

Well why is he asking us if they're good if he hasnt even got them yet? seems a bit of a redundant thread in that case.

Can't agree with this more. Most unis require a minimum B or pass at English and for sciences maths and science which you have. As long as your A levels make up for it and your personal statement can explain it then you should be alright.

Seeing as you call these GCSEs poor or mediocre I assume you have the ability to do better. Make sure to pull up your socks at Alevel and sort out anything that held you back at GCSE.

    Gluck

I got 1 A, 3 Bs and 5 Cs from school with an "unsatisfactory" Ofsted report, got BBBC last year in Computing, English, Psychology and Applied Science, and managed to get an offer to do Computer Science at University of Nottingham (BBB).

I'm pretty sure you'll do fine.

If you think they're poor, then you should see mine...

Oh and my cousin got in the university of Sheffield which is a Russel group, and he only had BCCCCCDDE for GCSE'S.

But got AAA at A level, which is where it matters.

you have no chance with these results...you might even struggle getting in the top 100.
You might aswell start working in McDonalds.

Yes, you can. Some unis have other assessment criteria like the LNAT, and are much more interested in your A Levels.

They should be alright if you do well in your A Levels.

When it comes to it look out for specific GCSE requirements you don't meet, for example Manchester ask for an A in English Language (Source) and Nottingham look for 'outstanding grades of A and A*' (bottom of this page)

I've not heard of anywhere else making similar requests but when it comes to this time next year make sure you do check everything out thoroughly as it would be a shame to apply to somewhere which rejects you straight away based on a rule such as those above.

They are similar to the GCSEs I got and I think Ive gotten into a top 20 uni. To do English which is hugely competitive. So yeah. As I've said before, it isn't all about grades, and a great level of improvement and evidence of hardworking at a level seems to do the trick. Alongside a wicked personal statement that reflects enthusiasm and passion for the subject as opposed to merely 'desperate to get on a the course so I'll do anything to make myself look good' ness goes along way.
